Media picks us to finish 4th in the West ... behind La Tech? Good lord!

Not surprised. Losing all your linemen equals losing votes (and I’m perfectly happy with the under estimation)

It caught the eye of several of our players on social media yesterday.

Almost as bad as the Madden ratings. I expected 2nd or 3rd behind North Texas and maybe Southern Miss.

The west will come down the last game of the year UAB @ UNT. Book it.

Being behind So Miss and La Tech is laughable.

SOUTHERN miss will be good . we barely beat them last year at home

USM is going to be good and their record isnt going to reflect it because they have such a tough non-conference schedule. They play @Miss St. @Troy and @Alabama in September.
So they are going to be beat up and likely have a losing record going into conference play where they play two of their three toughest conference games to start off their October in UNT and LA Tech.

It's not unrealistic to put us fourth. It's not unrealistic to think we could be playing for the western title either. There are a lot of questions about us that we don't know the answer to yet. I do think there is a lot of parity in the west however, and we could still win it with a couple of losses in conference. I would have Southern Miss as the favorite to win the west going into the season.

It all depends on the next wave of UAB linemen on both sides of the LOS. If those guys are ready to continue level of play from last two years we will compete for the West. If not, then media may not be far off. We win at least 7 with our schedule, but no one has a clear idea yet what the ceiling might be. After three games we will have a decent picture of whats possible this season.
