not sure about the knees being ruined in college part.
Consider that the NBA season is MUCH longer than a college basketball season.
Wear and tear at that level is much higher than the college season (games are longer in the NBA too)

Great article!

I contend that William Bedford is the most talented big man we have ever had.

I know Larry Kenon was awesome. I know Keith Lee was brilliant. I believe James Wiseman may make me rethink my ranking. But for sheer size, athleticism, and skill, Bedford was the best.

Bedford was the best at wasting his talent.

William Bedford could have been the most talented big we ever had, but he wasn't.
Lee, Kenon, Wright and Vaughn all out played him. At 18, though, addiction doesn't even feel like addiction, throw in all that money and adulation and I can't even imagine. Then take the money away. I'm glad he's put his life together and has put his past behind him.

If you watched Keith his senior year, you could see he had lost the explosiveness that he had as a freshman, constantly reached/fouling on D. I believe something came up on a physical before his rookie year started.

When he led his team to the final four?

Yes.

I, too, also watched KL play for all four years. He appeared to be a half step slower by the time he was a senior, but nobody was as good in a half-court offensive setup than him...simply an amazing player with the softest hands I've seen anywhere.

Good assessment. He complained about his knees in his JR and especially SR seasons.
