Relax. As UCONN didn't want to accept, we make our own legacy on the field. We don't need to be let into the good bowls; we need to make the bowls we're in ... good. Otherwise we aren't worth a sh!t anyway.

Agree. When you get away from the CFP, the NY6 bowls, and maybe a handful of other bowls (none of which we will ever sniff, other than the G5 slot), the rest are pretty much not worth agonizing over, so maybe we should just concentrate on winning the ones we have, which we have mostly sucked at recently.

I would agonize for the following bowls: Liberty, Citrus, Belk, Gator, outback, camping and music city.

Without doing any research, that's probably about right. Again, none we will get.

Liberty Bowl still list us as a backup, so theres that atleast. The others are all Anonymous 5 vs A5. Waiting on G4 Bowl announcements, but Detroit MAC vs B10 and a single MWC vs PAC looks like only 2 A5 vs G4 Bowls.

Today is SBC media day. I caught part of an interview with the new commish. He talked about the ESPN bowl pool offering flexibility and opportunities within the regional footprint.

The Boston Fenway bowl seems like an interesting novelty bowl.

Anybody know which NY6 bowl takes the best G5 team this year?

It may be too early to make much of this—but—the MAC press release says they will “participate” in 2 of the following bowls where as the AAC press release says the AAC will have four “selections” from the following bowls. That might just be differing writing styles—but if you are parsing words carefully—the words used suggest the two conferences may well have very different relationships with the ESPN pool. At this point—emphasis on “may”—but if we are actually getting to getting our choice of the 4 bowls we wish from the list (as some have suggested), as I said before—then the new bowl deal would represent the kind of incremental improvement I expected. We would essentially be able to tie up every G5 vs P5 game east of the Rockies outside of the Quick Lanes Bowl.

It will be interesting to see which games are in CUSA’s and BYU’s pools. The big questions with CUSA are obviously Gasparilla and First Responder given their existing relationship with both bowls. It does seem as though there is potentially a path to some incremental improvement.

RE: AAC Bowls are annoucned on our Conference PAge
When I went back to cut and paste a quote from the AAC Bowl press release for another post that I ended up deleting---I found something quite interesting. Apparently---the language in our press release posted to the AAC website has been changed from saying "the American will annually have four selections" from the listed ESPN bowls to "The American will annually have four appearances in a group of eight bowls." Sounds like what I feared---its just a plain ole' every day bowl pool. That language change was clearly made for a reason. If we were really selecting the 4 bowls we prefer to play in every year---the verbiage changed would not have been altered to its current form. Below is the new verbiage and link.

Additionally, The American will annually have four appearances in a group of eight bowls. The American has extended its existing partnerships with the Birmingham Bowl, the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl, the Frisco Bowl and the AutoNation Cure Bowl. New to The American’s lineup are the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl, the Myrtle Beach Bowl and the New Mexico Bowl.

So, the MAC is not in the Gasparilla, Birmingham, and first responders pool like some predicted. Interesting.

It still says selections directly above the bowls.

No one predicted that in this thread. OTOH CUSA the conference which currently has ties to two of those bowls may continue to have access to them, or they may not. We won’t know until they announce their bowl lineup.

I see it now. Welp---I guess we are back to wait and see. Here is the difference in that section for the AAC and MAC announcements---

the AAC announcement---

Four Selections Annually From the Following
Birmingham Bowl (Birmingham, Alabama)
Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl (Tampa, Florida)
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl (Dallas, Texas)
Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl (Boca Raton, Florida)
Frisco Bowl (Frisco, Texas)
AutoNation Cure Bowl (Orlando, Florida)
Myrtle Beach Bowl (Myrtle Beach, South Carolina)
New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, New Mexico)

The MAC announcement

The MAC will also appear in two (2) games annually among the following bowls:
• Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl (Boca Raton, Fla.)
• Camellia Bowl (Montgomery, Ala.)
• Cure Bowl (Orlando, Fla.)
• Frisco Bowl (Frisco, Texas)
• Mobile Alabama Bowl (not an ESPN Events owned game)
• Myrtle Beach Bowl (Myrtle Beach, S.C.)
• New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, N.M.)

Some on the conf realignment board did as a dig to AAC.

RE: AAC Bowls are annoucned on our Conference PAge
Interesting to me was that the MAC didn't highlight the quick lane bowl.. it's a p5 bowl but listed extremely low on their bowl line up and not mentioned in the discription

I had a gut feeling that they know a big 10 would never have a team in it..
I just checked quick lanes bowl is now the Big10 11th game (used to be the 8th)...the big 10 hasn't had 11 bowl teams in a long time

Note 11 doesn't account for the playoff spots
