Two of the factors that may be driving these conversations are the probable increases in travel costs - particularly fuel - and what some sense as a decline in TV revenue for G5 conferences in the future. In the first half of the 20th century, conference alignment was based on the need to rely upon buses and trains for team movement over a weekend. The original bowl games were all scheduled for the Christmas/New Year holidays so there was time to travel by train to remote locations. Today we may see realignment based on costs (expenses up / revenues down) making these choices prudent and wise again.

That article isn’t really that impressive. It’s basically saying some CUSA folks said something along the lines of “wouldn’t it be cool if we could trade UTEP for Appy St?” And now it’s being reported as news.
