RE: Independence Bowl issues
Shreveport and Mobile have vital things that San Marcos and Little Rock lack.

Established grass roots support. The bars and restaurants have experience handling visiting team crowds, hotels are used to accommodating teams and the fans for an extended period. They have networks of local volunteers who help put on events for the players, the coaches wives during the week. Local businesses already built in that buy tickets and sponsorship's. Local media that has the whole thing down pat, the team arrival videos and stories, the fun night out event, the press conference, the obligatory practice shots, and as soon as the teams were announced the search of rosters for local ties and setting up interviews with a local guy's high school coach and playing day clips from their own high school coverage. One year AState had an ESPN3 hoops telecast the night before the Mobile Bowl, one of the bars downtown was promoting that they had the game on the big screen. In Mobile and Shreveport bars and restaurants scramble when the teams are announced to get participating team banners and have them up. They've learned from experience its a competitive edge.

In Mobile sat near some guys wearing Bama gear one year. Said they get tickets from their work every year and come out and if the weather is decent and the game is close they stay for the game and if not head home around halftime. Game was determined on the final play and they were still there.

No sense in moving either bowl and reinvent the wheel.

Both bowls struggle securing national sponsors and both easily out-do the typical ESPN Events game in local support, while ESPN's thing is getting national sponsors. Bring those games into the fold with a good local executive director and they could be the more lucrative G5 games because of the local/national support combo.

Is it against NCAA rules to have a casino owner as sponsor? Is Sunbelt champion still tied to New Orleans? This could do well pitting the best western C-USA and Sunbelt teams, which may in some years be champion versus champion.

That is a terrible idea. C-USA needs it's best western program to face the best western program from the AAC or the mountain division of the MWC. If the western division champ is also the conference champ, than our champ needs to be in a bigger bowl game. One that has them face a national power (even if they are a has been), on a day and time that will generate more interest in the bowl. I have a feeling the I Bowl isn't going to get a premier day and time with C-USA and the Belt as the two conferences tied to it.

Mobile will be fine. They have done a good job of creating their own niche in the bowl world. Thier expenses are in line with what they are and they get good local support. Mobile doesn't need P5 ties to survive. Frankly, the Indy would do very well as a premier G5 game. But because they waited too long trying to get a P5 tie. Lets be honest, a Pac12 tie wasnt really going to help them anyway. I doubt Pac12 fans were going to show up big in Shreveport. No the Indy Bowl has to figure out a way to survive the next 6 years as a bottom of the barrel scrub game before they can try to reinvent themselves as a premier G5 bowl game. Im not sure if they can make it 6 years or not.

Mobile doesn't have a title sponsor. Neither them or Shreveport have shown up in the official bowl pool release for the AAC, MWC or MAC.

I don't know if at the end of the day we might see a city move for one of these games to land a title sponsor.

Shreveport (49k) to Little Rock (54k)
Mobile (25k) to San Marcos (30k)

Upgraded venues and recruiting markets.

Independence Bowl at War Memorial Stadium would make a healthy addition to the AAC bowl pool.

San Marcos could make a good CUSA/SBC game with all the Texas area programs.

Currently the Mobile, Alabama is at Ladd Peoples Stadium which seats 40K. It will likely move the 2021 game to Hancock Whitney Stadium on South Alabama's stadium that is currently being built. Hancock Whitney will be a much better stadium than Ladd ever was, even at 25K that can be upgraded down the road. Alabama used Ladd back in the day as a home game, but the city never gave enough funding to keep it up, much less modernize it.

I just hope we find a sponsor for the bowl game. We don't need a P5 team, just need regional team that travels well.

Last year's champion UAB faced NIU (MAC champ) in Boca
The year before FAU faced Akron (MAC title game loser in Boca)
WKU faced Memphis (3rd place AAC West) in Boca.
WKU faced USF (2nd place AAC East) in Miami.

You might want to adjust to reality.

The Sun Belt and CUSA should have more common bowl tie-ins. I think it's inevitable. There's no real sense in having two bowls in Alabama tied to the MAC and let's face it, CUSA is not what it was in 2012.

I think that's a very common sense attitude. However, the MAC is going to have bowl ties in the south and west. It's simply inevitable. As the MAC's entire footprint is situated in cold northern climate---its never going to be a conference with many bowl options in its immediate footprint. Thus, its going to end up playing in southern bowls against other G5's. It is what it is.

MAC is always going to have several CUSA and Sun Belt games just to break up the potential monotony and will always have one or more MWC ties because Sun Belt and CUSA aren't going to go west very often.

I am apparently living in the past. The Independence Bowl is still after Christmas, which is attractive. But I looked it up, and payout has dropped below First Responder. The payout is still higher than all of the other C-USA bowl ties. Assuming the Independence can maintain its date and payout, I will agree the best C-USA West team should go to Dallas. At second highest payout, though, it should get a good team from C-USA regardless of opponent.

As will, it appears, everyone else in FBS, except for the B1G.

TBD

Probably the ESPN Pool, Army, BYU, the SB, and CUSA.

The PAC-12 will probably play there if the ESPN Pool places an ACC team, an SEC team, BYU, Army, ND, or maybe an AAC team there. It will choose to go to the ESPN Pool if a SB, CUSA, or MAC team is chosen as the opponent. It will probably end up being a SB, CUSA, MAC, and any independent not named ND most years to get to the next cycle to survive. JMO. 07-coffee3

There are many different "pools". Each one seemingly tailored for a specific conference. Not one overall "pool".

How can ESPN place an SEC, ACC, or AAC team there? Those conferences have other ties to fill, and are not aligned with the Indy bowl. Unless they have an overage of teams available.
