I don't think anyone but old-school USC fans care, at all. The "no FCS games!" folks care a little bit, because they don't want anyone to play FCS, but nobody is dogging USC for doing what pretty much every FBS program does.

I care because every time I try to argue that my own team, Iowa, should not play any FCS teams and should play 11 P5 schools each year, I use USC as one example of a school that actually does it. USC schedules the way I would like my own school to make a schedule.
Strangely, I never have used UCLA or Notre Dame as examples. Probably because I usually choose schools that schedule 11 P5 schools as examples. So usually I use USC, Stanford, Texas, and lately Purdue and Northwestern as examples of how I would like to make a schedule.
