RE: It's clear that UConn wants to keep their pathetic football program in the AAC
Connecticut had the unfortunate challenge that their men's basketball team fell on hard times. Whether coaching or recruiting, if UConn would have had their current coaching staff 5 years ago, the team would be competing with Cincinnati and Houston and Memphis, etc... as a top-tier basketball brand.

Additionally, Connecticut football suffered under some poor coaching.

Connecticut is assuming their men's basketball performance is reflective on being in the American. Connecticut assumes that playing Villanova is going to improve their recruiting.

Hurley is going to improve Connecticut's recruiting. -Not the schools associated with the Big East.

Here's some potentially useful info for the Huskies going forward:

BYU in NYC would be good move
Would not be surprised Kansas & WV end up on sch
Liberty will pay for H n H
Couple MAC schools
I would think schools like to expose their players to NYC & road trip for fans

Liberty won't pay for a H&H with UCONN. No more than travel costs and that would be reciprocal. They would certainly agree to a H&H in the late season when both schools will need games but I don't see how Liberty is in a worse negotiating position than UCONN.

UConn Football Facts @uconnfbfacts

Great work by Alex here (and appreciate @UMassADBamford for the insight)

Guessing at what future schedules could look like beginning in 2022:
CCSU
@ NC State
Boston College
@ Iowa State
@ NMSU
Army
@ BYU
Tulsa
@ Liberty
Akron
@ Mississippi State
UMass

Pretty sure you can take Tulsa off that list. I don't see any AAC schools playing them in football once they leave. Tulsa is also looking regional unless it's a buy game.

Looks like even more travel expenses then they had in the AAC.

FCS schools typically do not play more than two FBS schools in a season.

If UConn drops down to FCS, they got a league right there.

UMass hired a good young staff for the 2019 season.
https://umassathletics.com/coaches.aspx?path=football
Their AD gets it, and now they will no longer have to share whatever talent there is in New England with UConn.
The new staff at UMass is loaded with coaches from the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic & Mid-West.
I look forward to watching UMass Football blossom.

Bamford has been a pretty great AD. He showed what could be done when you put the right amount of support into teams that by all means should be competing better (hockey, specifically...going from only one season in its history in the NCAA tournament to being national runners up this past season).

I'm hoping:
a) He's able to keep it up and get the needed improvement in our other major sports
b) He's not poached by another university too quickly

RE: It's clear that UConn wants to keep their pathetic football program in the AAC
Listening to the UConn SB Nation podcast is really instructive as to just how completely delusional much of the UConn fan base is. I cant decide if these two are just young and uniformed or if they are willfully just distorting the facts to fit an unrealistic narrative. One of their big "inside sources" insights was that apparently---many of the UConn players from last year have managed to get bigger and stronger in the football off season. lol. Real value added content there.

I think the UConn fans are going to really enjoy getting back to playing old regional rivals. There are up sides and down sides to the move for UConn. I dont know why that cant be the focus of such a pod cast rather than trying to twist facts into a pretzle in order to arrive at the conclusion that absolutely no aspect of being in the BE is inferior to being in the AAC.

I feel like it’s an us vs. everybody mentality. Since the majority of national media didn’t give the expected response and have moved on, there seems to be an excessive need for validation from some...which is typically emotionally influenced. I haven’t listened to this particular podcast just going off the summation and things I’ve seen on social media. I think bball will do just fine and the fans will be happy in the BE. The decision has been made and folks just need to move on.

What happens if they get to the end of this upcoming school year, and turn back to the AAC castle and...

Just fill those G4 slots in with FCS "REGIONAL GAMES". UConn FB will end up back in FCS in a few years anyway if its not eliminated all together. However they will still have the GARDEN for one game a year after Nova, G'Town, and Xavier give them their annual spanking there if they can get past Seton Hall. 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 04-cheers

But only if he's able to propel UConn's basketball performance above middle-of-the-pack. It's not Ollie's shoes he has to fill, but Calhoun's. A couple of mediocre years, and UConn basketball will share the same fate as its football.
