Not worth it unless it has a P5 or AAC/MWC opponent. Definitely don't need another bowl with a Sun Belt or MAC opponent.

Doesn't get me excited, but it's an easy fit and easy trip for the CUSA footprint. Seems likely to find its way into the CUSA catalog, probably replacing something else.

You can't have too many bowl tie-ins.

This needs to become our primary tie-in, but only if it's against a P5 opponent. It's a good bowl game, and it's as close to the center of our geography as we could ask.

Shreveport's taxpayers have finally stopped agreeing to subsidize the Independence Bowl. The I-Bowl is broke financially and desperate for a partner now. That being said, we should drop the New Mexico bowl and pick this one up due to better geographical positioning.

If the AAC is going to send a team to the First Responders Bowl on a rotating basis, does that mean the Big 12 & Big 10 will be leaving the bowl, or sharing in the rotation? More importantly... Will C-USA keep our spot in the bowl?

Except for the often times lousy weather in Louisiana in December; I agree. And CUSA, is absolutely the optimum conference travel wise for the Independence Bowl.

I think the Big 10, Big12, ACC, and CUSA are all gonna share it from now on. Espn will just put together the matchup that sells the most tickets. Not gonna be a bowl we can rely on, although the other conferences wont always even have enough bowl eligible teams, so I think CUSA West teams will get thrown there more often than not.

How a bowl game in Shreveport has lasted this long is miraculous.

I still like New Mexico because we get an MWC opponent. I agree that Independence would be a good pick-up, maybe in place of Bahamas?

From what I have been reading they aren't part of the bowl pool so they need a regular tie.

PAC may have to commit instead to the bowl pool of Gasparila, First Responder and Birmingham. That could push out CUSA needing more slots.

CUSA West in particular I think would be interested in this bowl. MAC is always looking to diversify. SBC I believe is tapped out with 5 committed bowl ties.

Can you expound upon this? The taxpayers are not subsidizing the Independence Bowl. I'm just curious how you know all this.

Would be nice to get but who actually believes this will land in CUSA's hands over the AAC's?

The bowl gets >$500,000 a year from a hotel/motel tax that is only a few years old. Seems like the taxpayers are subsidizing it more than ever.

If Shreveport is looking to unload this bowl, I think it would be a great opportunity for a C-USA city to purchase it and move it to one of our stadiums. Especially since the I-Bowl isn't owned by ESPN and we could probably get the NFL Network to air it.

I'm very confused. You are citing an opinion piece by Jim Settle (we won't even start about him) about the bowl needing to survive without public dollars, where he outlines the public dollars used. He even underestimates his number because he doesn't include the fact that the bowl uses the stadium for free. Nowhere does this opinion piece suggest that any of these dollars are reduced or will be reduced in the future. The Shreveport/Bossier hotel/motel tax started in 2016 and lasts 12 years, so the support isn't going away any time soon. Am I missing something?

Good luck with the Independence Bowl. I hope CUSA gets it. AAC passed on this bowl. Maybe you can get BYU and Army for tie ins. CUSA vs Sun Belt or MWC would be a great draw also.
