More AAC-UB slow/no news day reading
Consider this more leisure-time reading, like some junkmail, when you have absolutely nothing to do. It almost reads like "it's a slow news day so let's get some people to say nothing is going on."

But since it IS a slow news day ... with all the speculation about what the AAC is going to do, if anything, I thought "why not?" and so posted this. It's from Buffalo News about Buffalo and is dated July 8, so fairly new.

https://buffalonews.com/2019/07/08/ub-bu...re_stories

There are some good talking points from AAC's Aresco just on general conference moves. Also notes AAC decision should be known after mid-July meeting, so maybe Aresco just doesn't want to upset the bosses (got a laugh from that line about not wanting to upset MAC's Steinbrecher).

So, anyway, take this as seriously as you want, or not.

Oh, Aug. 31, we yearn for thy arrival.

RE: More AAC-UB slow/no news day reading
Rather than editing above, just wanted to add that being a former/retired communications person, I'm familiar with the content/story planning that goes on in editorial board discussions. Both the content and timing of this story strike me as odd. The AAC bigshots meet July 15-16 and this comes out one week ahead? It's not a rah-rah, pick us, pick us story. The Buffalo AD doesn't want to talk directly to his own local newspaper, and his statement is a "nothing to see here, move along" comment instead of just "no."

From Buffalo's point of view, they might consider themselves in a situation of having to do something to move a bit out from under the Bills shadow. An Ohio/Michigan-dominated MAC isn't doing it for them. How does the MAC compare to regular football/basketball games with Navy, Cincinnati, Memphis, Temple, Wichita State, UCF, USF, Houston, etc etc? Some more travel costs, but still ... .

Ok, enough rambling. Apologies in advance. We'll see what happens after the AAC bigshots meet.

Wouldn't mind this. Makes every MAC game driveable. Would love more roadtrips to BG/MU/Akron/KSU/OU than every 4th year.

Invite Marshall and if they don't want to rejoin, stay at 11. The MAC is the only FBS conference not currently jumping the shark and that's something to be proud of.

I hope not. That would mean 10 conference games in a 12-game schedule, cutting into Northern's payday road games. Like it or not, NIU needs the $$ and the chances to play the P5. Still would play all 5 in-division and 3 from East. Also, I read somewhere that the AAC might have to do something via an NCAA waiver for not playing equal divisions for a CCG. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 11 would put the MAC in the same situation.

How's this for a make-it-up-as-we-go-along scenario: Buffalo goes to the AAC, Toledo shifts East and puts all the Ohio teams in one division, and the West finds a replacement? Ok, speculators, who might that be?

Hey, it's still the "slow season," so why not?

Assuming no adds, 9 of the 11 MAC schools would be in Michigan and Ohio. As an NIU fan, what is appealing about that? That would be a more concentrated footprint than both the Horizon and Missouri Valley.

No existing FBS school is going to leave their current conference to join a Michigan Ohio bus league.

It's a Michigan Ohio bus league now.

Maybe Toledo could stay West and EMU could move East, though that would really wrinkle their gray field. But they could also be guaranteed CMU and WMU would be among the 3 West teams they would play every year. And they wouldn't have to contend with NIU and WMU for West title.

Anyhow, imo, you are absolutely correct about no current FBS teams moving. Would have to be an FCS team that's almost ready and willing.

Anyhow, this could all be moot if the AAC decides to stick at 11. But speculation can be fun. July 15-16 not that far away.

IMO, a lot. Unless you're in the P5 or AAC, the most appealing alternative is to be in a cohesive tight-knit, regional league. Ohio and Michigan are the two most FB-rich states in the midwest which helps recruiting.

CUSA and SBELT have vast footprints yet are making the same money we are. CUSA feels like a scheduling association more than a conference.

If we add a western school, that turns Toledo into a biannual game. Rather keep 11 and a bigger slice of the pie.

edit: Today there's an article of the MWC's rivalry problem and a redditor comments: "Outside of the MAC, I feel like all the G5 conferences have a rivalry problem." That's a valuable feather in our cap.

Except that we don't have a rival.

As stated, it was a slow/no news day. This thread can now fade quietly into history.
