Verne Lundquist Hosting 2019 AAC Media Days
I love Verne! Nice touch AAC. Hate to be Coach Edsall....

Quote:Legendary television broadcaster Verne Lundquist will serve as the emcee next week as the American Athletic Conference holds its annual Summer Kickoff and Media Days July 15-16 in Newport, Rhode Island.

Lundquist, who has served as a leading sports broadcaster for 56 years, will host The American’s signature preseason event for the second time in three years. He will join a group of 41student-athletes and 12 head coaches who will be on hand to mark the unofficial start of the 2019 college football season.

This year’s attending players include Houston quarterback D’Eriq King, who scored 50 touchdowns in 2018 and has been tabbed as a Heisman Trophy candidate for the coming season. King is one of 12 all-conference selections form 2018 who will be in Newport as he joins center Jordan Johnson, safety Richie Grant and wide receiver Gabe Davis from UCF, tight end Josiah Deguara from Cincinnati, tight end Mitchell Wilcox from USF, wide receiver Pop Williams from Memphis, linebacker Shaun Bradley, wide receiver Isaiah Wright and offensive guard Jovahn Fair from Temple, defensive end Patrick Johnson from Tulane and linebacker Cooper Edmiston from Tulsa.

Live coverage of The American’s Summer Kickoff and Media Days will begin Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m. ET, as the American Digital Network originates from the event’s signature New England-style clambake. Hali Oughton will be joined by Andy Katz and Andy Gresh for coverage of one of the most highly anticipated events on the college football calendar.

Coverage continues Tuesday, July 16, on the American Digital Network with the announcement of the conference’s preseason media poll. Commissioner Mike Aresco will give his annual remarks at 9 a.m., while Lundquist will moderate a series of roundtable discussions with The American’s head coaches as well as a student-athlete panel. Hali Oughton and Andy Gresh will anchor the Tuesday-morning coverage.

ESPN3 will air a two-hour program from Newport as well Tuesday afternoon. Matt Schick and Rene Ingoglia will anchor the coverage, which will include interviews with all 12 head coaches, as well as Commissioner Aresco.

RE: Verne Lundquist Hosting 2019 AAC Media Days
Five key AAC Media Days topics posed from NOLA.com:

Quote:1) What are the ramifications of losing Connecticut?
2) Will the league pursue a 12th team or stand pat at 11?
3) How immediate will Dana Holgorsen’s impact be at Houston?
4) Can anyone knock off Central Florida?
5) Will any of the former powers rise?

Watched a bit of this.. the blonde haired host (Hailey) seems to think UCF, USF and Houston are the only teams in the conference.

Yeah, she's a bit dingy. The parts I watched Cincinnatuh [sorry, couldn't resist] was given some props. Favored to be the one to knock off UCF in the east, Perry Young one of the conference defensive players to watch this year, Andy Katz interviewed Perry Young, etc.

Don't worry Arresco or the AAC TV spots don't remember UC is in the conference either.

Thought it was weird that a golf announcer was hosting the AAC media days...Then I looked him up and found out he called SEC games, which explains why I hardly know who he is.

RE: Verne Lundquist Hosting 2019 AAC Media Days
This event is about the last vestige of the old Big East and Newport is a spectacular location, even though it's now proving to be an anachronism. Certainly it must garner more media attention--what with location and free lobster for the media, than any other G5 conference? But I'm guessing it doesn't draw the crowds of adoring press that most P5 media days do.

The bigger story will be if UC, UCF, Memphis or Houston can continue to field ranked teams this season and win some head to head competition with P5 programs once again. It should be an exciting conference race.

Then, Longhorn steaks next year in Dallas I suppose as turf replaces surf? And we'll begin wondering if the conference HQ in the heart of B12 country foreshadows any future moves.

Yeah, mainly did the primary SEC game on CBS. I believe he normally called the Army-Navy game each year as well. I'll miss his voice flipping between 3 or 4 games at a time (If my team isn't playing).
