I'm guessing he has not record. Wonder if you do jail time for what he's being charged with? Guess is a plea deal is reached, but not certain the severity of the charges.

In Ohio it would be a low tier ovi (barely a low tier) if he pled as is or was found guilty there would be a mandatory 3 days which could be done in a 3 day alcohol program. It's the type of thing that could be reduced depending on court, facts and record.

This should be a learning experience. A multi game suspension and community service.

Driving while drunk--throwing up on the sidewalk...seems the University established a standard for this back with Z.....kick his ass out no questions asked.

Cleanliness of the program is paramount to everything else.

Otherwise....we're talking double standard.....

Except that wasn't what happened though ultimately she won the subsequent power struggle he stayed and coached beyond that.

Yes.

Off topic, but I remember asking that as a 15 year old in driving class. I asked how drinking drinking 60 ounces of a 4% alcohol beer could change 10% of your blood to alcohol when the average adult has 5-6 quarts of blood. The instructor patiently explained that the legal limit was 0.10%, not 10%.

At the time I was skeptical because this was the same instructor who told me that a car hydroplanes because objects weigh less when they move faster, and he said that the same principle explains how airplanes can fly (the guy was nice & otherwise was a good instructor so I didn't bother contradicting him).

A double standard is justified because the offenders are in very different roles. One was a coach who is paid a multimillion dollar salary; the other is an unpaid student-athlete.

If you want to compare this to another case, use a case from another player.

If it was my decision, assuming it's a first time offense, i would suspend a kid for several games, but i would not kick him off the team. I believe in second chances with a zero tolerance for any second infractions. These are young guys, and this is life. Most folks learn from their mistakes and between a suspension and the court ordered punishment my guess is he would as well.

I fully agree. Too many kids get screwed having something like this on their record which won't allow them to play somewhere else, get good jobs down the road, etc.

Give the kid a chance to fix the mistake and get his life back on track and hopefully one day graduate from University of Cincinnati. If he doesn't learn then it is all on him (No 3rd chances).

I would propose a a 4 game suspension. I'm sure the kid would be pretty damn pissed to be missing UCLA (Home), Ohio State (Away), Miami OH (Home), Marshall (Away-But closer to where his family is from).

This will really show how dedicated he really is to his teammates/coaches/himself. Let him back just time for conference play if all is good.

I really do admire the confidence your instructor had in being completely wrong. He would be a great addition to the board.

RE: DB Noah Hamlin Arrested
I expect the rival schools to rip UC over this but that young man is no different than many of us were in our youth. Nobody usually thinks of the consequences of their actions are going to be. He made a bad mistake but at least he is alive and can possibly learn from this mistake. The cemeteries are full of young men and women that made bad decisions on drinking and driving. When I was a young man, ohio had 3.2 percent beer and many of the hoosier kids would drive to E-TOWN across the ohio/Indiana border to buy the low alcohol beer. They still got drunk when partying. They still drove cars home when they shouldn't have. Fortunately most never were maimed or killed by it. Some later, got the good stuff and became alcoholics/drug users and lived lives of ruination. I'm sure That young man had attended sessions by the football coaches about the dangers and risks of drinking and driving. Unfortunately those coaches don't live with the athletes and able to monitor them 24 hours a day. It's ironic when the XU fans attack UC over this stuff because their program has plenty of examples of men/women making mistakes of drinking and driving. Heck, their Church encourages drinking with their beer booths at their festivals to raise money each year. Hoping this young man straightens his life out and even maybe gets a second chance down the road if he has earned it. If not, he'll know he paid the price for something he was warned about many times. Best of luck to him if he's done.

it's funny how over the years, the coaches can abuse alcohol a lot of times but if they never get caught driving under the influence their lives go on. Most athletes party and drink and most of them will never get caught. Moral of the story is avoid the stuff and you won't have to worry about the consequences. Soft drinks taste better anyways. :-).

FORTUNATELY, he didn't succumb to alcohol poisoning and die. I BET his passengers in the car didn't even think of the possibility of that being their last night on earth.

I think .08 is the legal limit, so he was roughly double. The BAC thing is somewhat of a junk science. A lot of it depends on your tolerance. Some people I know, probably function on that number daily. For a 20 year old college student, he was probably pretty messed up.
Not that it matters much but the article states in Pennsylvania the legal limit is .02 (which seems absurdly low) but PA always seems to have odd rules/regulations on alcohol.

Legal limit for 21+ is .08. For those underage to be drinking it's .02.

Purity does not equal zero tolerance.

Every single school in the country has had a football/basketball player get charged with a DUI. Even BYU. Even Notre Dame. Most of them stay on the team (even at BYU).

But a head coach? That's a much bigger deal because they set the tone.

And let's be clear - UC wasn't facing a "had one drink too many" type of DUI (like ECU's head basketball coach in 2013, or Missouri's head football coach in 2011). Not only was the head coach stumbling drunk and unable to answer basic questions (he responded to "What time did you stop drinking" with "Yes, sir"), but I seem to recall that it was clear from the video that the same officer had pulled him over before.
