DB Noah Hamlin Arrested
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/...672049001/

Boy the Enquirer sure jumped fast on this headline. Not a good situation for Noah or the football team. Blew a .148, false ID, evading arrest, underage drinking on his 20th birthday.

From the article:

"Police said they initiated a traffic stop after they observed a vehicle driven by Hamlin stopped in the middle of the road and later run a red light. When police activated emergency equipment, Hamlin stopped at an intersection but drove away when officers stepped out of their vehicle. When Hamlin stopped again, police approached on foot and ordered him out of the vehicle. Police say Hamlin did not comply and reached his hand under the driver seat. “At this time, I opened the driver’s side door and grabbed the male by his arm pulling him out of the vehicle and detaining him with handcuffs,” the arresting officer wrote.

A female passenger in the car was “extremely intoxicated,” began vomiting and was later transferred by medics to a hospital, according to the report. "

I'm guessing that he's done...that's A LOT of bad decisions at one small time. Not a huge loss IMO, kid basically cost us the Temple game and with Bush showing out the way that he has, Hamlin likely would've been pushed down to dime packages, and we have enough high level guys (Ward, Harris, Johnson) who can fill in with as much, if not more, talent.

Good point. Doesn't excuse his actions, but it sounds like he needs to find some new friends regardless.

An underaged kid is arrested for drinking too much. Blood alcohol of .148, isn't that almost 15 percent. Did they mean .0148?

I think .08 is the legal limit, so he was roughly double. The BAC thing is somewhat of a junk science. A lot of it depends on your tolerance. Some people I know, probably function on that number daily. For a 20 year old college student, he was probably pretty messed up.

He's lucky they didn't shoot him.

Not that it matters much but the article states in Pennsylvania the legal limit is .02 (which seems absurdly low) but PA always seems to have odd rules/regulations on alcohol.

Yea didn't quite understand that.. it didn't say whether their was a firearm recovered so did he think that was a joke?? not quite so funny and could have ended very badly for him.

My thoughts too. Reaching under a seat is a bad move.

Yeah dumb move even if he was just reaching down because he dropped his wallet. I always would wait for officer to get to door and let him know I'll be reaching (to this part of car) for (Insert Legal Item).

Assuming it was an illegal item. I would guess he threw something underneath to hide. I did that one once in high school and officer found just what he was looking for in under 10 seconds of searching lol.

My opinion of him getting kicked off the team for drunk driving, underage drinking, evading police, and having falsified legal identification? Nope...if you're stupid enough to do all of that when you have a shot like any collegiate athlete has, you don't deserve to have that chance anymore. Then again, you're talking to someone who is a former collegiate athlete and who has lost a friend and a member of my family due to drunk driving related accidents, so I'm probably not the best person to ask about my opinion of dumbasses being given a pass of any stupid decision, let alone one that could've risked his own life, the life of his passenger, and the lives of any motorist on the road with him. In my opinion, DUI is one of the worst crimes one can commit, along with sexual offenses and murder/attempt...and if I were to encounter someone who had done that, I'd question their ability to lead or make positive choices in ANY situation.

I added the "not a big loss" comment because it's true, not because if he was I'd think any differently about him being kicked off the team for doing what he did.

Yeah, you are right. You are compromised. Not all DUIs are created equal, especially the way they are handed out these days. If you did mouthwash before you left the house, you would blow over the limit for a period of time. .02 is having a beer with lunch and driving. .08 is probably the average of the people leaving an UC football game. There is some middle ground in there somewhere, but saying having a beer with lunch being the same as a murderer/sex offender, would have me questioning your decision making. And I'm not a drinker.

There's what you're saying, a large gap, then falling asleep behind the wheel, running red lights, and blowing twice the legal limit. I'm referring to the latter, not the former.

He’s a god damned idiot. Blowing a 0.08 while driving normally? Maybe you keep him around. This jackassery? You suspend him for a very long time at least. Like a full season. If he gets his **** together then maybe you let him back. Or maybe you cut him with the understanding that he can return after a year in a junior college if he acts right.

That said, I don’t know him like coach does. Maybe he reads to dying children in hospitals for 10 hours each week and this is an inexplicable event from an otherwise great kid. A lot of factors come in to the decision. But I know I’d be fired for this at my job.

Everyone is human. Thankful nobody was hurt. Hope coach talks to him and makes a good decision. I wouldn't presume to know what the right decision is. Either way I hope he learns from whatever happened and helps shape him going forward.

Agree. I'll bet the house that the kid is remorseful and upset at his huge mistake. He needs to be a man and face the consequences but if he can be rehabbed/salvaged to return to the team at some point then I support that. I trust Coach and his staff to make the best decision for the kid and for the program moving forward.
