0.148 means 0.148%

Yes.

Off topic, but I remember asking that as a 15 year old in driving class. I asked how drinking drinking 60 ounces of a 4% alcohol beer could change 10% of your blood to alcohol when the average adult has 5-6 quarts of blood. The instructor patiently explained that the legal limit was 0.10%, not 10%.

At the time I was skeptical because this was the same instructor who told me that a car hydroplanes because objects weigh less when they move faster, and he said that the same principle explains how airplanes can fly (the guy was nice & otherwise was a good instructor so I didn't bother contradicting him).

I really do admire the confidence your instructor had in being completely wrong. He would be a great addition to the board.
Got A good laugh out of me on that one!

A double standard is justified because the offenders are in very different roles. One was a coach who is paid a multimillion dollar salary; the other is an unpaid student-athlete.

If you want to compare this to another case, use a case from another player.

If we're talking "image" then there is no difference here. Zero tolerance from the purity crowd.

Purity does not equal zero tolerance.

Every single school in the country has had a football/basketball player get charged with a DUI. Even BYU. Even Notre Dame. Most of them stay on the team (even at BYU).

But a head coach? That's a much bigger deal because they set the tone.

And let's be clear - UC wasn't facing a "had one drink too many" type of DUI (like ECU's head basketball coach in 2013, or Missouri's head football coach in 2011). Not only was the head coach stumbling drunk and unable to answer basic questions (he responded to "What time did you stop drinking" with "Yes, sir"), but I seem to recall that it was clear from the video that the same officer had pulled him over before.
I asked a big WVU booster if Huggs drinking was a problem? He said "No we got him a driver!"

Had UC taken this approach, we would have had Huggins, and most likely OJ Mayo, Walker, and etc. and stormed into the Big East instead of limping in. I know UC had tailed off a bit in Huggs final few years but I think the Big East would have provided a great backdrop and I bet he would again have been bringing in monster classes and we would have been big time. Thanks UC, thanks Z! Great job.

Yep, and we would have likely ended up on some sort of Ncaa probation. My memory is Mayo sent Usc to the block.

On May 11, 2008, ESPN.com reported that a former "confidant", Louis Johnson, revealed on ESPN's TV show Outside the Lines that Mayo received numerous gifts in violation of NCAA rules. The report states that Mayo received the gifts from Rodney Guillory before and during his tenure at USC. Guillory is said to have received the money from the Bill Duffy Associates Sports Management (BDA).[16] On May 2, 2008, Mayo cut ties with BDA. He then hired Leon Rose to be his agent.
In April 2009, the NCAA combined its investigations of Mayo and former running back Reggie Bush into a single probe of the Trojans' athletic program.[17]
On January 3, 2010, USC announced that it had determined Mayo was ineligible for the 2007–2008 season because he received improper benefits, and had thus forfeited his amateur status before ever playing a game for USC. As a result, USC vacated all 21 of its wins from the 2007–08 season, dropping its record to 0–12. A vacated game does not count as a win for the other team, but is officially treated as having never happened. USC also withdrew from postseason consideration (including the Pac-10 conference tournament) for the 2009–10 season.[18]

I knew that about Mayo, but I don't know about Walker. Kansas State never got in trouble for getting Walker.

Can you imagine a 2007-08 team with Bill Walker, Devan Downey, and Michael Beasley (assuming Huggs still would have gotten Beasley and Walker)? With a recruiting class like that, maybe Mayo would have come along for the ride too.

That's the real reason Z sacked him...had he assembled that class they'd have gone deep and perhaps have bagged a NC.

Couldn't have that...so out the door you go.

Enquirer reporting that Hamlin is transferring.

Is this French for "shown the door"?

Yea he'd made a post on twitter acknowledging that he was transferring, thanking UC, etc, etc.. I'm guessing they told him he was no longer a part of the program.

It's nice to see the University apply a consistent policy regarding the AD.

I know you love Huggins and hate Zimpher (including working for UC), but this is ridiculous. Huggins screwed himself. The DUI was bad, then he played a power play wanting a contract extension and they called his bluff and forced him out. Had he not done that he'd have been coach at UC for 3 more years.

Conjecture...

And it does not explain why Z contacted the NCAA to keep Kennedy's team out of the tourney the following year--she had an axe to grind.

I'm generally pro-Zimpher, but I remember hearing those rumors loud and clear.

You didn't hear any complaining about it though because everyone ended up moving on with their lives and getting what they wanted pretty quickly (Kennedy, Zimpher, Cronin, even Huggins ended up at WVU in 13 months). And the players didn't get much sympathy when it turned out that 2 of the seniors didn't show up to classes all semester and everyone else was transferring.

It was designed NOT to make the news to save face for Z so she could bag her next gig. It was also to deny AK any chance of continuing as coach with the "interim" tag removed. Z didn't want a Huggins loyalist as successor--she wanted someone who back stabbed Huggins in the past.....Hence.....

Remember that the local news media were in her pocket the whole way, so it was not pursued.

I know this from personal communication.

AK actively tried to kill the program post Huggins. At the last radio show him and Huggs joked around about it, giving each other high fives and saying the program was buried forever. That was when I turned on Huggins because, as a UC fan and alum, the school is bigger than the coach. I couldn't believe they said it in front of school officials, the media, and the boosters that supported them through all the scandals and arrests. And guess what? None of that was in the media. So who was in who's pocket?
