Easy. All you need to do is know people in certain positions at your university. Any alum with connections can find out almost anything.

I doubt UNT is the only one. The MWC might be checking some schools and some schools might be sending fliers to them just in case (it should be every AD’s job to make those kind of connections regardless) but it doesn’t mean they’re being seriously considered. The MWC has really few options, in fact they wouldn’t want any of those options below if they had better ones like Houston.

-North Texas
-Rice
-UTSA
-UTEP
-New Mexico State
-Louisiana Tech (they learned from the mistake they made in 2001)

BYU is not going back. SMU, Houston, Tulsa and Memphis will not answer the phone. Any Sun Belt school not named Texas State is a non starter. At the end, I don’t think the MWC will lose a school nor they won’t expand to 14.

I hope Texas Tech, UT, OU and Oklahoma St remain fixtures in the Big 12. If the Big 12 fails, I hope that nucleus find homes in the PAC 12 or SEC. Hence the name and I won't do your research for you.

Simple question from a Tech alum to a frog alum? Do you consider TCU and Texas Tech a little 8 member of the Big 12?

Prove me wrong TCU grad.

So:

You hope the Big 12 remains, but you chose a permanent user name based on the assumption that it may in fact fail. And yet you still whine when anyone else points out the Big 12 may in fact fail.

As for the difference between TCU and Tech well that’s easy

TCU earned its way into the Big 12 and if the Big 12 fails it will have to earn its way into another P Conference. For better or worse TCU controls its own fate.

Tech had to use backroom politics to get into the Big 12 and if the Big 12 fails then it’s fate is 100% out of it own hands because no one wants you as a stand-alone option. You’re desperately hoping to be the admission fee to get the schools they actually want. Better hope at least one P conference feels like highly overpaying to get UT.

The Big Ten said Texas had a “Tech” problem. The SEC already has A&M. The ACC is too far away. It only leaves the Pac-12 as the only realistic option but it’s only because of Texas and Oklahoma not because of their own merit.

TCU earned its power school status. That Rose Bowl victory vs the Big Ten champion paved the way to the Big XII not to mention they won the conference and the Peach Bowl in their third season.

Sure, but just like Tech, TCU will likely have to rely on Texas to escape to a power conference if the Big 12 implodes.

True or more than likely they will be left behind but they’ve never used any political power to tag along their big brothers like the schools in Waco and Lubbock.

If there’s something TCU has done since 1996 is adapt and overcome to the changing landscape in college sports. I used to give them a hard time for switching conferences all the time but I respect them for being pro active. If they’re left behind, they’ll be fine and prove to the doubters that they can still win at the highest level with or without the University of Texas being in the same conference.

That’s not true. None of those schools (you forgot Rice) were seriously considered. It was TCU or bust if they wanted a replacement in Texas. Now you can argue the Big XII had other options like Louisville once they invited West Virginia or perhaps BYU but there’s a reason why they chose TCU over those two. The Big XII dodged a bullet with Louisville. Let the ACC deal with that albatross.

Ah but what you Tech fans fail to mention is that Scott made that trip thinking Texas (the biggest prize of them all in college sports) was going West. Otherwise there’s no invitation. Texas Tech by itself can’t go to a P5. Texas and Texas A&M can. The SEC got a home run addition.

Ask Oklahoma and Oklahoma State what the Pac-12 told them in 2011 when they inquired about membership. If blue blood Oklahoma couldn’t get an invite without Texas, what makes you think Texas Tech can?

Texas Tech is the 25th most valuable football program according to Forbes. We will be fine.

What is UTEP doing to make themselves better? UH hired Dana Holgerson. UNT is paying Littrell top 10 money in the G5

Don't be fooled. He hates UH like he hates Texas Tech. Some think TCU is a better choice for the SEC over Tech and UH.

Fortunately, aggy alumni mail is addressed to a different household member.

I know... But to be fair we all here in Texas pretty much deslike each in a fun athletically competitive ways, I mean.

Texas Tech will never receive a stand-alone invite to a P conference. You’re simply not wanted.

Your only hope is to try and force UT to take you along with them

But hey, prove me wrong and show us the invite.

Until then, keep that burnt orange booty in easy kissing range and pray they don’t decide to finally take some anti parasitic drugs and flush Tapeworm Tech out of its home in Bevo’s colon once and for all

UTEPs issues are internal not external. We don’t depend on a big brother to be “relevant”. This is not about UTEP in fact it’s about UNT and their coach but as usual you hijack threads to make it about Texas Tech. I’ve never seen an insecure fan base like Tech’s but I understand why they act that way. Without Texas, they’d just be the UTEP of the Panhandle. That’s what their fans fear their fate will be if Texas leaves them behind.

Congrats on that Forbes ranking though but when it’s all said and done there’s still no conference championships, no Heismans, no BCS/NY6 bowls or a NC run. Baylor and TCU have done all of that with less resources.

TCU is likely playing in a gang of 5/6 conference with Baylor if the Big 12 dissolves. Tech will be fine.

The Big 12 needed a replacement for aggy and our options included TCU, Houston, SMU, North Texas and UTEP.

The Big 12 should've gone after a school outside the state of Texas. We didn't add any additional viewers and decreased our football attendance average.

LOL. Good luck Miner

Sure. Good luck, Red Raider. You’ll need it more than any other public school in Texas.

They would have used political power if they had it. If Ann Richards had been a TCU grad, you'd have seen them in the original Big 12 lineup over Baylor.

Can we stop letting every thread involving a Texas school devolve into a Texas Tech pissing match?

If the MWC was considering adding any Texas schools, for whatever reason, they already know who the candidates are. They don't need to be "sniffing around." UTEP, UTSA, Rice, North Texas and Texas State are the candidates. They all have their faults.

Any expansion has to increase TV revenue, because without that it won't happen. I don't see any of these schools exciting ESPN. Any of these schools that leave their conference for the MWC will pay at least $2 million in exit fees plus the loss of revenue from their last season, so there would need to be enough TV revenue to offset the travel expenses and the costs of leaving either CUSA or the Sun Belt.

If Air Force were to leave the MWC, hypothetically, there is not a terrific candidate among the current group. It might make sense to stay at 11 or maybe add UTEP, in the hope that their basketball team can get back to their glory days. UTEP is a better regional fit and they would want to be in the MWC. It would be like their old days in the WAC.

the biggest mistake UTSA made was not accepting the MWC invite and instead going to CUSA with the stupid idea that "more Texas teams is better"

they should have learned from TCU instead they did what the rest of the SWC leftovers did and it is working about as well

I don't know that UTSA was ever invited to the MWC.
