I always find it amazing how people who are really bad at their jobs manage to keep them for so very long.

Basically, allegations of physical abuse and racial remarks from Melissa McFerrin.

Holy Cow... Three years ago they claimed she was physically and verbally abusive, and they give her a 2-year contract extension?

Also:
Quote:Those interviews conducted by the university include a majority of players who said in 2018 they would not recommend McFerrin to a recruited friend. Several more said this year they were unlikely to recommend McFerrin’s program or would not at all.

I was actually able to do it using a different browser earlier, but manually deleted the cookie in Chrome and got it working again. Thanks for the help!

Honestly, I do not care other than giving justice to those allegedly harmed.

Maybe that’s something she picked up from Tubby’s short time here (Obedience!!). Wanting to be stern with her players and then get paid to go away.

All in the grand plan... 03-idea

Of course I’m being sarcastic- don’t go derailing the thread....

04-cheers

I'm not defending her, but I had several coaches who you could claim were physically and verbally abusive. Not mean spirited or self-serving abuse, but you would maybe call intense coaching, i.e., shoving, elbows, forearms to get you into physicality and to give you experience with tricks you'd face in games, insulting and calling you names to get you riled up and/or get your attention. Maybe society has grown beyond that sort of coach behavior. Or maybe we're too babied these days.

All of that is true. What concerns me is all the players who say they would tell their friends not to go there.

All of us who experienced (almost everyone playing sports) the hardnosed coaches, even with the discipline and "abuse" we came away with a great deal of respect. In most cases it helped us. The fact that players are dead against her, shows she did not earn any respect at all. I would think the only way that happens is if the "abuse" wasn't for the players benefit. Also, those coaches were willing to show you tons of love if you worked hard and listened to balance things.

Look at Calipari for instance. He calls a player P on live tv. The players aren't leaving saying kids shouldn't play for him.

Yep, different times. Not defending her either.

If all this is true, then they should make a change especially when your own players don’t recommend her as a coach. I don’t keep up with this team but is it fair to say they have underachieved.

Baseball seems like another program that could us a change especially since there is so much talent in the South and around Memphis.

Lack of leadership is on the coach. Sounds like McFerrin has zero player support. It would have been interesting if the whole team had quit in mid season---like they talked about.

This will end with McFerrin being fired with cause, how she got an extension days after an investigation started deserves its own investigation.

Lightning in a bottle.
Schools hire coaches based upon what they did at another school...hoping for the same results.
Sometimes you get the results you want...other times you discover that it was a once in a lifetime run for that coach...that he or she cannot duplicate.
