RE: 2019 Huskies Previews & More
Antonio Jones-Davis was named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which is awarded to college football’s defensive player of the year.

Two other MAC players were named to the Bednarik preseason watch list, and three MAC players were named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is awarded to the best all-around player in college football.

Congrats to Antonio Jones-Davis, and it is always a positive for MAC players to be named to these watch lists.

Tre Harbison has been named a preseason candidate for the 2019 Doak Walker Award, which is presented to the nation's top running back. Congrats Harbs and I have a feeling this year he will be even better than last year!

Not an NIU preview, per se, but pertains to the upcoming 2019 Football Season. I suppose this falls under the "& More" portion of the thread title.

Looks like I'll have to wait a year to gauge Payne's progression as he's been tagged with a Redshirt for 2019.

Also of interest, it appears that Joseph Bonds will be Redshirting as well after contributing as a LB last year. Apparently the move to DE is more than experimental. Look for Bonds to add size and strength and tear it up in 2020.

When it says redshirt next to their name on the roster it means they already redshirted. Payne, Bonds and everyone else with that designation will play this year if they're good enough to get on the field.

RE: 2019 Huskies Previews & More
Didn't Bonds play last year? How is it that he's able to apply a redshirt to 2018? Is it the new rule about playing "up to 4 games" that allowed NIU to do that? I thought he played more than the allowable limit. I guess not. Never mind the earlier post then.

RE: 2019 Huskies Previews & More
You are correct, Bonds and Payne played in four games last year so 2018 counts as a redshirt season for them and they still have four years to play. Same with JD Harris who played in two games and Caleb Wright who played in one.

Saw video segments on channels 7, 9 and 32 last night. I missed channels 2 and 5.

Nice Tribune article with maybe the quote of the summer:

"We're going to make sure we utilize the talent on our team. We're not looking to just run a bunch of plays over and over and over."

Yep! I'm thinking about making a donation to Temple Athletics. They'll need it when all the season ticketholders drop out.

I was thinking of sending some flowers or box of chocolates and thank you card to Temple's administrators.

LOL some good ones about Temple hiring Carey away. No matter how you may have felt about Carey, his O was brutal to watch and inefficient.

This article from a few days ago, while being titled about the QB battle to strengthen the position, talks more about how different the O will be, and the reasons Harbs dropped from 230 to around 215. The new O "gives the ballplayers, the good playmakers, opportunities to make plays,” Harbison said. “Getting the good players out in space, everything like that. It works to all of our strengths; instead of being one-dimensional, we’re working to everybody’s strengths. It makes us pretty excited.”
https://www.daily-chronicle.com/lists/20...xml?page=1

I am as excited about the new O!
