RE: 2019 Huskies Previews & More
I forgot about the early June preview in the Orlando Sentinel: https://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/c...story.html

It concludes with it being key that Hammock and his staff get players to buy into his vision for the future and getting everyone on the same page quickly. I don't think this is an issue. I see the flurry of transfers out was those players realizing on their own or being told that they did not fit in the future plans. While I foresee some adjustment period with the new O and all, I don't sense any issue about the payers buying onto the changes and playing hard for Hammock and the other coaches.

Let's face it, there will need to be significant changes to make the O dynamic. I feel very comfortable with Hammock and company making good decisions.

The big question mark is still WR. No one has really stepped up. Tears has shown signs but inconsistent. We need playmakers.

I think this is the year that Cole Tucker breaks out.

Curious as to what you see in Tucker to break out? He seems average in most all physical attributes. Not fast. Not quick. Not physical. Good hands, yes. But the “not drop the easy ones” hands more than the circus catch kind. Not knocking the kid. I think he’s solid. Just don’t know how he can stand out.

I just think with the amount of passes dropped by the other wideouts last year, Tucker will be able to develop a comfortable relationship with Bowers which will lead to more passes being thrown his way.

Agree there. I see him as that 3rd and 7 go-to guy for Bowers. But if he's in the top 3 for catches at the end of the season I think our WR group is really lacking talent.

This. He needs to be a more consistent pass-catcher, that, and work of his route-running (hopefully, the new coaching addresses and helps with the latter).

Robinsons was next to me in line for a moment at the equipment sale. Muscle isn't an issue. Dude is jacked. Refine his routes and I think we really have something in this kid. A poor man's Golladay as far as catch radius and go-up-and-get-it.

I'm hearing this bulking up, is he a possible TE?

Not in my opinion...I think we’ve got a decent group of TEs going into camp.

I am not as worried about the talent in the WR group as as I am worried about the inexperience. Only 1 senior, 2 juniors (1 just signed from JUCO and 1 who has never played) and a whole lot of freshmen and sophomores.

I expect Tears to take a huge step (or two) up now that he has a competent PASSING QB dishing the rock.

I've mentioned it before, I'm sure, but just look at what Santa was able to do in his limited time with Blake, Tears, etc. Having a QB who can deliver the ball on target and on time can make all the difference in the world.

Not sure what Robinson's role will shape out to be (I've always been critical of his hands/consistency) but I hope he too takes a big step forward, same with Tucker.

I'm eager to see how Ritchie fits in and how Leon Payne has progressed. These two had more "route running" hype coming out of high school than any recent NIU WR commits I can recall off the top of my head, so I'd love to see that show up on the field.

If those two can meet those expectations, I think a trio of Tears, Ritchie, and Payne can be formidable. Throw in clutch go-get-it-when-you-need-it possession/red zone play from Robinson and/or Tucker and NIU's in business. Also, I believe Coach E's offense is reliant on pass-catching out of the backfield so it'll be interesting to see which RB(s) steps up to fill that need. This is where Colins would be huge, if he ever clears and gets on campus.

RE: 2019 Huskies Previews & More
For some reason, everybody seems to forget TE Mitchell Brinkman, who saved Northern's adz several times in the MACC with tight catches in traffic and extra yardage. Brinkman somehow managed to make even Childers' passing look decent. He's listed as a redshirt jr., 6-3, 250. Don't know his health status. He still there?

Yes he's still around with two more years. The new 4 game redshirt rule helped him get another year, last year.

I knew Nebraska had improved since the lest time we played them, but I was not aware they had progressed as much as these odds would suggest. We will see how good our O-line is when we play Utah, which has the # 2 ranked defensive line.

I think I saw Phil Steele has Utah as #8 or #9. Yikes!

Based on previous year, current roster additions and coaching change, I am confident that NIU will be in the picture to win the MAC West and MAC Championship. Solid Defense and improving offense.

Yet, unsurprisingly, I'm pretty sure I've read in these "expert" previews predictions of Ohio, Toledo, and even Western Michigan winning the MAC this year but not a single prediction for DEFENDING MAC Champion NIU. Ha.

Hence the "unsurprisingly" at the beginning of that sentence.
