RE: Tony Robichaux passes at age 57
After Chase Riddle died, Troy renamed the baseball field which had been Pace Field.

It is now Riddle-Pace field.

The ball park is already named M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

Jay, there isn’t a person out there that can give me one solid reason why the stadium or field be named after Tony. I know the Russo’s gave a lot of money and Tigue Moore is just a name to me.

Mr. Moore's name will never come off the ball park. Without him, we don't have a ball park. Or much of anything else when it comes to baseball. Before the character of Tony Robichaux, there was the character of "Tigue" Moore. The fact it's just a name to you is irrelevant to the discussion. There is a reason why he's known as "Mr. Baseball" here in Lafayette.

Yes, the Russos gave money to have the name on the ball park. But, again, without the Russos, where would UL baseball be? In Tony's first year, Mr. Sammy Russo asked to meet with him. He said he liked what Tony stood for and wrote the program a check for 50,000 on the spot. That was in 1995. I do not believe we ever would have had the success from 1997-2000 without Mr. Sammy and the Russo family.

The Russos would be ok with putting Tony's name on the ball park once the financial obligation is complete. I don't believe it can be done before then. But I do know the Robichaux family is steadfastly against removing the Russo name.

Tony's name may wind up on the ball park. But it won't be because either name currently on the park comes down.

You could name an annual team "good works" award after Robichaux unless there already is one.

The next construction project at Cajun baseball will be the new club house facility which should include locker room, indoor hitting/pitching/training, meeting rooms, player lounges, coaches offices, an I'm sure other functionality. It wouldn't surprise me if that building had name associated with it.
