What's sad is you all think you are relevant. Those G5 bowl games get more viewers than the FCS National Championship game. That should tell you all you need to know.

JMUs two FCS championship appearances recently each had over 1.5M viewers. This years FCS championship was actually down quite a bit. Most non P6 bowl games score below that in ratings. Kudos to Marshall the Gasparella bowl had a slightly higher rating than JMUs FCs championship games but that was against P6 South Florida. When you played Central Michigan in a bowl the year before there were approx 750k eyeballs on tvs.

Check out JMUs Espn Gameday ratings (both times we hosted) relative to the few P6 or G5 schools who hosted as well. We are relevant and you are misinformed.

We didn't play Central Michigan, we played Colorado St. from the Mountain West. Our average bowl game ratings over the last 5 bowl games are 2.1 million.

2018- 1.75 million
2017- 1.2 million
2015- 2.4 million
2014- 2.25 million
2013- 2.58 million

FCS National Championship viewers

2018- 1 million
2017- 1.51 million
2016- 1.56 million

No ratings for FCS games were listed for the other years. Not that I could find anyway.

Conversation I just had:

Me: I hate sifting through rants from Marshall fans just to get updates on JMU football.

Wife: Then why dont you stop reading them and just read the JMU section of the website

Me: This IS the JMU section, it's a JMU message board.

Wife: Why do Marshall fans rant on the JMU message board?

Me: To tell us how glad they are that they are FBS and how they aren't jealous of us.

Hmmmm....

Channel day and time matters. Your last two bowl games have been on Espn our two recent FCS championship games were on Espn2. Its very impressive that Jmu participated in games with those ratings early on a Saturday on espn2. You last game was on Espn on a Thursday night. Your thesis isn’t wrong and your .75 rating vs Mountain West /P7 Colorado State on Espns main channel is even more embarrassing than a poor ratings vs Central Michigan would have been.

Just curious what we’re your ratings on Espn when you hosted college Gameday? Oh yeah you never have. We are very relevant and Espn likes us for a reason- no denying that.

Wonder what kind of ratings you had against Colgate 05-stirthepot

Yeah. You guys are so relevant. 03-nutkick

What I will never understand is how a fan of Marshall thinks posting on a JMU message board about how important/superior Marshall is anything more than a pathetic cry for help. Seriously, this seems very odd to me.

Are JMU fans posting on the Marshall board? Does Marshall even have a board? I really don’t know as Marshall is an afterthought to me.

What’s sad is you touting a minuscule difference in ratings between the two. Both are extremely low in the tv ratings-verse.

The difference is, the fcs championship game has some actual drama and meaning where your g5 bowl game is an exhibition between two mediocre teams.

Additional cost is negligible for JMU, Nova, and UD. We are already comparable to the MAC. It's Time.

Buffalo and Temple join later, after it's established, as it's a better fit.

I think there is room for Marshall in this alliance of independents.

The 2019 Army-Navy Game...

Still a national schedule, with a chance to also create regional rivals.

This alliance is a very easy fit for Army.

No Thanks, unless you have nationwide name recognition and following Independece in IA is a death sewntence. Something NMSU, UMass and UConn will find out soon enough.

Since you have Nova beside your name:

2019
Home
Lehigh
Maine
Stony Brook
Richmond
LIU (Trans Year, DII players)
Delaware

Away
Colgate
Bucknell
Towson
William & Mary
James Madison
New Hampshire

Its a better schedule than yours, Army would go at least 11-1 against your schedule, the only team that might have a chance is JMU. But after the 70-14 beat down they put on Houston last year in the bowl game my guess is they would go 12-0.

NC State would disagree and so would their fans. I live in Raleigh and “herd” about it all last season.

LOL.... way more than just FBS > FCS

Let's see here.

Marshall has better football facilities. Marshall has won the same amount of FCS National Championships as James Madison even though we haven't played FCS since 1996. In fact, JMU couldn't win a NC until Marshall and other top programs moved up. You are welcome.

Finished ranked in FBS Top 25 four times and had an FBS Top 10 finish. Multiple Heisman Finalists, nations best bowl winning percentage as well as the longest bowl winning streak.

Guess I will stop there cause I'm sure you get the point. Have fun beating Colgate...oh wait, never mind lol.

Marshall has been around much longer- D1 program a lot earlier than JMU.

In a way we are Marshall 20 years ago now. Maybe when we go FBS we'll keep the early momentum going and vault to another level above Marshall. It's very possible. JMU Football is trending up while Marshall Football has kind of flat lined but on the plus side your hoops program has done well the last few years and looks good again.

And where did NC State play last year. OOO That's right, in Huntington. Marshall in the next few years also has Pitt and VA Tech coming in. If JMU wants to play those games they have to play them all on the road.

As bad as some schools are, all IA schools fully fund their programs, something you can't say about IAA. No way does Rhode Island fully fund their program and I would add Maine into that also. Sure Maine has a good season ever so often and a 10 win season every 10-12 years but that doesn't mean they fund everything properly.

I would say about 40% of IAA football programs are under funded and some like VMI, Morehead State, Presbyterian, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and Jacksonville shouldn't even be allowed to field a IAA team. These schools either deemphasized football or athletics long ago or never fully funded them in the 1st place.

Enjoy the CAA for years to come.
