Try not to take it so seriously Diamond Doss. Honestly, if you think about how many conferences and teams we've been paired with over the past 60 years since our days in the Missouri Valley Conference it would be interesting to list those out and see how our geography has changed. We've been jumping around more than a Las Vegas call girl. In 1957, we joined the MVC and guess who were members at that time? Houston, North Texas, Tulsa and Wichita State. So you talk about a geographic outlier for Cincinnati. Interesting that several of those programs are still conference mates in the American.

I lived the history since I have attended games in the 50's since I lived nearby, in the 60's as a student.off and on in the 70's and 80's, and since 1990 as a season ticket holder.

Wasn't Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) a member of the Mo Valley when UC joined in 1957?

I had to double check but Okla St left after the 1956 season and went indy until they joined the Big 8 in 1960.

It was one of those, let me BRIEFLY check into this and see what we got. LOL! I really liked our Metro Conference affiliation once Florida State, Virginia Tech and South Carolina joined. Pretty good on the football side when you include Louisville and Georgia Tech. I realize nothing will beat the Old Big East for basketball though.

I suspect we have the record for wondering in the desert of conferences.

Just hoping for one more so we can say "We will switch no more forever" to bastardize the words of Chief Joseph.

There must have been a scheduling agreement because UC played OK A&M home and home in basketball during Oscar's sophomore year.

RE: Build Cincinnati's Conference From Scratch
Lots of fun ideas thrown out here.

One of my objections to the AAC (beyond the fact that I would rather us be in the ACC) is that we have zero regional rivalries.

I don't necessarily object to some of our conference foes are in Texas or Florida. My objections is that none are in Kentucky, Indiana, WV or Michigan where we could envision an easy road trip to watch a FB or even a BB game.

In the B1G, there is quite a spread from Nebraska and Minn to Maryland and Rutgers. But they all have at least one or two rivals in driving distance. Same with SEC, ACC, B12 and Pac12. Regional rivalries are important, even if we have to re-establish them over a # of years.

Look at the more ballyhooed rivalries in college football. OSU - Mich. Alabama - Auburn. Clemson - SC. Florida - Georgia. Oklahoma - Texas. All within driving distance. The fans know each other, or at least think they do. The most notable exception is the ND-USC series and ND-Stanford.
