Youngstown Vindicator closing shop after 150 years in business. It is the only major newspaper covering a market that captures potentially 200,000 readers. How soon until the Enquirer follows suit?

I don't know that I care.

Newspapers covering national (and perhaps even state) news are dead, as people who are interested already know that news before their newspaper arrives.

I actually envision some small town newspapers that cover local sports and politics surviving much longer than the big boys. Where else can you get the school board news, town council news, preview of the local high school football game, etc.

My wife is from Warren, Ohio (just about 20 minutes from downtown Y-town). Even though the Vindicator is going out of biz, Warren's paper still will be in circulation mainly due to the reasons stated in your last paragraph.

I would still subscribe to a major daily newspaper if it didn't assault my intelligence. I still do the WSJ but even it is going downhill from a balanced news coverage perspective...although their editorial page remains solid.

When I dropped the Enquirer I immediately picked up the WSJ and have never looked back. But I do wonder how much longer any news will be delivered in printed form at the far end of my driveway.

Local politics and sports in the way to go for locals. In Cincy the recent city council textgate was hilarious.
