Monday Musings July
Summer finally has hit Ypsilanti. Bike nights, fireworks, and floating down the Huron season is here for all to enjoy.
I think UCONN and UMASS will try to join the MAC for football and I think the MAC should say no. Only positive would be if BGSU moved to the Mac West.
I think Michigan should have tried to win game 2 in the CWS instead of "throw off" Great season for the boys down the Washtenaw ave.
Hope the Football players enjoy their one month off for the year.
Saw we have basically a brand new basketball team practicing on twitter.
Was this the year MSU was supposed to visit emu? What a missed opportunity with the new score board if it was.
Thats it until Football practice.

My only comment is that I wish the video board was more rectangular, elongated to match the elongated design of the building.
I believe Ford Field has elongated video boards which are more 'stretched out' like a television or computer monitor.
This design would have fit better on the OLD football building.

I would like to see a scheduling alliance with INDEPENDENTS in N.Y., and N. England.
It could be UConn, UMass, and even Army where each school would play one home and away FB game vs. MAC schools each year.
Would take TWO schools who say "yes."
E.g., one year UConn could play say a home game vs. Team X from the MAC East. Next year UConn would play a game at Team X.
And then say UMass, plays at Team Y from the MAC West and then hosts that same team the next season.
OR, UConn and UMass could each play TWO games vs. MAC teams per season, one home and one road for a total of four games.
These schools would also schedule say one home and one away MBB game (and maybe WBB, too).

Dear steve,
If, someone in the MAC wants to schedule Connecticut or Massachusetts in the future, then I guess they should go for it. As far as Eastern is concerned in this picture, I say no. As far as Army is concerned, if I remember correctly, Coach Creighton does not want to schedule them after next year's game. And it is not because we can't seem to beat them. It's because their blocking schemes can create injuries to our players.

I'd sure like a win against Army, but maybe it can't be done. Last year was awful. Our O couldn't move the ball and the D couldn't stop them. They had something like 45 minutes possession.

Ken once again you hit the target! Christian Spears, the assistant AD under Heather incessantly whined to anyone who would listen about the Army deal from the Gragg administration.
EMU gets to prepare for an offense that they will see only once a year. Army is an extremely physical football team that cut blocks and injures defensive lineman such as they did with LaBarbera last year. Army does not belong to a P5 conference like Kentucky or Illinois with their SEC and BIG Ten networks to expose EMU to a national audience. I love Army and all that they have going on but I REALLY like that they are playing 6 miles west this year, good luck Harbaugh. We have no business playing them.

I understand the points about not wanting to play Army.
The context was a scheduling alliance for the MAC, not EMU.
Two independent eastern teams (e.g., UConn, UMass, etc.) looking for more FB scheduling opportunities would each play two games per season vs. MAC teams.
Army could be invited if needed in this scheduling alliance (if both UConn and UMass didn't say yes).
There would be say 4 games per season in this scheduling arrangements so 8 MAC teams would not have one of these games each season. E.g., each season UConn would host one MAC team and visit one MAC team. Ditto for say UMass.

See my reply below to Ken's post.
The suggestion was for UConn and UMass, two independents with scheduling problems, to create a scheduling alliance with the MAC.
It is not an invitation to continue a series with Army or start a series with UConn or UMass.
BTW, the game at Army in 2017 was as good a college game as I have attended. The game was exciting and the atmosphere great.

It would be awesome if Army beats UM. I'll be watching that one closely.

Here is a Tweet about Title IX and girls h.s. soccer:
https://twitter.com/Sulliview/status/114...8458163201
Sometimes we take a very narrow approach to Title IX, how does it affect men's sports instead of how it grows sport participation among girls and women.
I go back to the days when long distance running was mostly a male sport (esp. marathons) and now women make up a very good proportion of the entrants in marathons.
