Not sure I completely agree with the author’s assessment of our past history.

That was a bleak period of football a decade ago.

And he falls to mention that during much of that 32yr bowl drought we were an independent when there were few bowl games who virtually never invited independents.

It's been a while since I went to school there. But, I remember when 1 or two wins in a season was an accomplishment. LOL

That may seem right but it really isn't. I think football always seemed to take a back seat to basketball. We had a lot of mediocrity though. Going back to 1960, we have twice as many 8 win seasons (8) as we have 1-win seasons (4). We have had more 9 and 10 win seasons as we have had 1 win seasons. We haven't had a zero win season yet.

Here's a list:
1 win - 4
2 wins - 7
3 wins - 3
4 wins - 6
5 wins - 10
6 wins - 10
7 wins - 6
8 wins - 8
9 wins - 3
10 wins - 2

RE: Revival of Memphis Football
When I was forming my allegiance to the Memphis Tigers as a young boy, the FB Tigers were winning consistently (50s-60s). Only after I graduated college at MSU & moved away from Memphis did the Tigers begin to lose with any regularity. So I have my earliest remembrances of Tiger FB as a winning program. In fact, I remember thinking Louisville & Cincy were the weak sisters who we beat like a drum with regularity.

Does that include the past handful of seasons or is that pre-Fuente?

The list covers all seasons from 1960 to 2018.

Even remove DeAngelo from the equation, Coach West still took Memphis to its first bowl in over three decades.

If you blame Coach West for having a horrible program, you are simply either clueless or just an idiot.

RE: Revival of Memphis Football
Remember the GMAC bowl vs Bowling Green in Mobile, AL? They had 1 little fast -as-lighting athlete than ran circles around us. It was in the sub-par-HS-stadium called Ladd Peebles and it was a terrible storm. Rained it's *** off! All our shoes got soaked so we went to their little hillbilly Walmart and bought $2 flip flops to get home in. Then we drove home to an ice storm. Flip flops were a poor choice, lol. Glad we have new, updated memories to enjoy!

Tommy West is someone we should thank. For his coaching? Sure. For DeANgelo? H*** YEAH! And mostly for that farewell press conference.
