RE: Marshall best choice for AAC
Marshall you can definitely say has Boise State level fans. It may not reflect in the home gate all the time but a lot of T-Shirt fans.

They would fill it up big regionally for the AAC.

Cincinnati
Temple
Navy
East Carolina

Bring 5,000 to those locales. No other candidate will travel like that. Plus a 38,000 seat stadium that is an AAC level capacity.

Marshall has football history and brand recognition. Longest bowl winning streak in country and the overall best bowl winning percentage in the country. Only potential candidate who has finished ranked in the Top 25 over the last 6 years.

I still think that Army + VCU is the best option for AAC, or staying at 11.

However, WKU finished the 2015 Football season ranked 24th. Unless you aren't putting us in as a potential candidate (and if WKU is a stretch as a candidate then Marshall isn't too far ahead if you get my drift).

Yep. It's much better to have a large, engaged fan base in mid-size market than an empty stadium in a big market.
The addition of Rutgers to B1G says otherwise

Would you say Rutgers has, as you put it, a large engaged fanbase in a mid market? Or a fairly empty stadium in a huge market?

They were a no brainier for addition to the B1G BECAUSE of their market, it has much more of a bearing than you care to admit

I agree they were added for their market. I'm just of the belief that empty stadiums with non-competitive teams is less desirable for casual viewers who are looking for a game to watch. Thus, hurting the TV ratings that TV partners seek.

Also with the rise of streaming and the slow decline of cable it will be more important to get subscribers from wherever they may live. So actual fanbases who are willing to spend money will start to become more important than "market" with declining cable subscribers.

Those are the schools voting. I’m sure Navy has a say, and they like the western division for a more national schedule.

The AAC is trending southwest, as evidence in their HQ relocation. Marshall isn’t a bad choice, but can they get a school like Cincinnati to go to bat for them? My guess, no.

Yeah, I doubt we get the invite as well. But aside from BYU/Army football + VCU Hoops scenario, I think we're one of the best options.

I think it's the best option for you.

Just as I would argue adding NIU is the best option for me.

The reality is, the best option right now for the AAC is to have every school take a bigger slice of the pie that just got freed up and stay at 11 while applying for an 11 game championship waiver. Also, UCONN's exit fees and such should put the other schools in a much better position now

If they get to stay at 11 with the same money I think you're right. Right now it's not clear if that's the case. There seem to be conflicting reports on what UConn leaving does to the new TV deal.

According to every inside source, the only two candidates are BYU and Army. So this is a moot point.

I am assuming Army is really Army + VCU (or another basketball school). Makes sense to me. As much as I would like to pretend otherwise, no one else adds value right now. It would just be another mouth to feed.

Army/St. Louis gives the conference a major midwestern city (where the conference is trending) to plant the flag and hold a tourney.

But neither Army nor BYU have the reasons to join, so it is all a moot point. Unless the AAC decides to explore more options like the Big XII did after Notre Dame and Arkansas declined interest.

Yeah....I’m not seeing that as likley. The sense I’m getting is the AAC leadership and ESPN are struggling to find a team that would both say “yes” to an invite and actually add value to the league. I seriously doubt there are 3 of them right there in the current footprint. I suspect, if the addition comes from the east, there will be just one school added. Though I will say the possibility exists to add two if one school is a football only invite and the other is to be a non-football member.

Agreed. We make a nice regional opponent for almost everyone in the East Division. We do travel well, and I appreciate the kind words.

I can guarantee Aresco not Looking to add any Cusa teams. He wants someone who already has good.value and not in need of major money for upgrades.

Marshall doesn't need more money to compete with the AAC. We have already proven that.

Marshall is the best choice out of all the schools interested in joining.

I love how ODU's $46MM 55% subsidized budget is god awful, but Marshall's $30MM 50% subsidized budget is amazing.

If Marshall is accepted and gets a full cut of the AAC media deal, they'd still be $10MM below what ODU's budget is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
