UConn and Cronin the only two blaming the American for recruiting.

Yep. When X was bringing in players that had advanced basketball smarts and could really shoot the ball--while playing in the A-10 and beating UC more years than not, it begged the question why UC couldn't get some blue chip kids in here during and after our run in the real Big East.

And all the hand wringing about Brannen's recruiting a few short weeks ago. Discussion boards can be a little like the 24/7 cable news cycle--everyday brings an alarming new crisis.

I believe we're going to see a most exciting style of basketball that will re-energize UC basketball fans across the tri-state. Many had lost their passion for various reasons. Let the good times roll.

And not even half a day in, we already have Mo Egger writing an article asking the question: Should we be concerned about Zach Harvey, and writing that he may be twice the play of Gary Clark but "I just hope he's half the man"...good God...

Just telling people where it's at so they can read the drivel. He also heavily implies in the piece that the only reason why he is coming to UC is because no one else wanted him, despite him making visits to Xavier, Gonzaga, and Creighton after all of the news about him broke.

Mo Egger is one of UC's best pundits and biggest fans. He's asking a valid question. Stop it.

This is the main reason why I was so excited for Brannen. I always thought he would bring some serious recruiting chops and this definitely proves it considering he was able to land a top 50 recruit within the first few months on the job. Will be interesting to see what type of recruits he will be able to land once he has some success. It finally feels like Bearcat Basketball is ready to take the next step.

RE: Harvey Commits!
Mo Egger is a big UC fan, no doubt. He's been one of the few quality sports journalists in the city... IMO, probably the best. Great guy... but he is also one of the biggest Mick apologists out there. He just needs to fly out to LA, f*** Mick, and get it out of his system. 03-lmfao

Anyway, what a start by Brannen. He just gets things done. Harvey is one of the top recruits in program history. I can't wait to see what his first full recruiting cycle will look like! If he coaches Xs and Os half as well as he recruits, we won't have to worry about keeping the NCAAT streak alive. I'll be grabbing some season tickets before they're all gone.

Speaking of Mick lovers. Mike DeCoursey with another hit piece, wonder if Mick wrote the article for him.

I was going to support the previous staff until the level of play warranted firing them but I never understood why his best class was really early in his tenure. Then we started recruiting better players and actually elevated ourselves to a top 5 team a year ago. Yet despite recent success and the upgraded facilities we were told we needed to compete we didn't have a star recruit in the 3 years since Cumberland signed.

The timing was perfect in that we got great seasons the last three years and by upgrading our recruiting by switching coaches we should avoid the down years that were coming with the recruiting downturn.

To be clear, I would have also supported Mick while he was here. I completely agree that it was strange that Mick always claimed we couldn’t recruit the top players when we see it happen at Memphis, Ganzaga, and even in the past at this very university. I don’t expect Top 10 players every year, but we should be in the running for 4* recruits every year and land at least 1 4* recruit more years than not, including some higher 4* like Cumberland and Harvey.

I hope we catch some breaks this year and Brannen can make it to the Sweet 16, or further. Recruiting will heat up even more and we may back to the tournament success we saw under Huggins and in a few years our national brand will be high again.

I guess the University needed to put out the press release they did because of expectation that this type of hit pieces would follow. I don't know this kid but trust Brannen thinks it was a dumb youthful mistake and maybe it is just me but I feel that he doesn't think he is taking a big gamble on Harvey.

Just me again but it annoys me when a writer says he is only the sixth top fifty player in UC "history". That is taking some arbitrary date or modern rating system maybe only going back to the eighties or so. In the fifties, sixties and seventies the Bearcats had probably a couple dozen or more top fifty recruits.

RE: Harvey Commits!
Harvey looks like an excellent addition. But I have doubts about how much he will contribute this year. He is still rehabbing from an ankle injury - which I believe he suffered in January - and has missed close to a month of summer practice. He should be a big contributor off the bench - or a starter - in 2020, but this year may be about recovering and learning the scheme.

As for him proving Mick was a terrible recruiter, I'll agree good start, but it's not proof yet. He's got baggage that caused a number of teams to pass on him, plus a lingering injury and was also a late reclassify. We still beat out some good teams for him, but circumstances reduced the amount of competition in comparison to a normal top 50 player.

Not really. He was a 16 year old with nekkid pics of a 15 year old he was bumping uglies with. Then a law intended to punish predators was misapplied by an overzealous prosecutor to damn near ruin the kid’s life. So if there’s a story here, it’s about abuse of process.

Not even going back that far. It's not counting wingfield, flint, fortson, dermarr, or satterfield.
