If they can revitalize Crosstown like they have they can probably do anything. Biggest issue will obviously be crime which may make it a harder sell.

RE: Former Tiger James Maclin's firm awarded Fairgrounds mixed use project
The Fairgrounds is city owned land ( that means Memphis residents own it). So now the land grab has begun. What is the value of that land in the middle of Memphis on the real estate market? The city is going to let private developers build retail and residential buildings on this property. Who is going to own these properties? Are these private developers paying for a ground lease if they own them? Is it anywhere near market value for similar properties? Who is going to collect the lease payments or rent?

There needs to be a lot more info on this before I will say it is a good idea.

To that point, this is Strickland cashing in on his way out.

Or at the very least, letting his buddies cash in, but that's been going on since 2015.

Yes, that is exactly what I said. CBU like other universities and colleges has campus security. All of the security officers at CBU are required to graduate from the Police Academy. They are also armed and are even able to make arrests. Kind of makes for a safer environment.

Any other dumb comments?

I am talking about the old Sears Crosstown. I am usually there about once a week. The area is slowly improving. They have a good amount of security in the building, most are armed too

2015? You got to go back way further than that on Memphis politics.

I understand where the Crosstown area is and Sears was the hub. The surrounding areas have not been kept up and as properly values went down, crime went up. Crime is higher there than along Central between Hollywood and Parkway.

Willie was a big part of getting the old Greyhound bus station moved from Union Ave. to out on Lamar. He held options on the land that eventually became the new hotel across from AutoZone park. Now, whether he profited from the eventual building of the hotel, I do not know. It is just one of many instances that people with connections profit from these "developments". I just know that all that land at the fairgrounds belongs to the people of Memphis, and we better damn sure get a profit out of the development.

RE: Former Tiger James Maclin's firm awarded Fairgrounds mixed use project
James Maclin has come a long way. I remember him playing Dixie Youth Baseball in Covington as a twelve-year-old. He was a big kid even then, hitting home runs at that age. My son was playing second base on an opposing team. I told him "don't try to block the bag if James is coming into second, or you will get run over." His thighs were bigger than my son's waist.

Then, he was an outstanding lineman at Covington High, who became a Tiger. I am proud to see a Covington Charger and a Memphis Tiger make good.

RE: Former Tiger James Maclin's firm awarded Fairgrounds mixed use project
This development will require the Coliseum to be torn down to replace the parking that this development takes away. If I'm not mistaken, this replaces the blue parking lot, and the overflow parking on the grass field to the north of the LB. The "youth sports complex" that they refer to (baseball & soccer fields, I assume) would probably have to go on the old Libertyland property (SW side of the Fairgrounds), limiting parking expansion over there.

When the Tigers get to that 45K attendance number, we'll need that parking. Also will need it for the Liberty Bowl & Southern Heritage Classic.

This hurts the Tigers, no matter how you spin it. We have a strong base. 20,000 or so. But to get those 40,000+ crowds, you have to attract the fair weather fan. And the fair weather fan is not going to park a mile away and walk.

You must be one of those people who are afraid of areas you consider to be too dark. Fear is fine for Trumpians, you seem to dwell upon it; but the rest of us know that Evergreen is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Memphis. The Concourse is also having a major positive influence on property values.

If you look at then plans it appears that there won't really be much of a loss of parking. Most of the development area is currently grass.
