AAC should invite Rice, Army, Air Force
What if you had Army, Navy, and Air Force in the same division? They could add Army and Air Force, along with Rice to go to 14. Memphis and Houston could be moved to the East, with Army, Air Force and Rice put in the West.

AAC West
*Navy
Air Force
*Army
Rice
Tulane
Tulsa
SMU

AAC East
Houston
Memphis
Cincinnati
USF
UCF
East Carolina
Temple

It would certainly give the AAC a different identity

Seven of the nine smallest schools in FBS in one division? That is not going to work.

You might as well just call the divisions Public and Non-Public, because they sure aren't East and West.

RE: AAC should invite Rice, Army, Air Force
IF —- and it’s a HUGE IF —- the AAC were to add Army they would face intractable problems under the current CCG requirements and due to the Army-Navy game and the money and importance to both schools. If they were both in the same division, the only way to maintain the required divisional round robin would essentially mean that neither Army nor Navy could ever win the division or play in the CCG because they aren’t going to move the game, divisional or otherwise, off of the Heisman Saturday, so the CCG would occur before they play each other. If you put them in the opposite divisions and create some mechanism where they would never play as rotating cross-division opponents, and that their regularly scheduled game was a non-conference tilt, then you’d still run the risk that they could end playing twice in two weeks if each won its division. I don’t think either institution will do anything to cheapen the tradition of the game or value of the current setup with CBS.

Exactly. I mean yes, UH is about four miles east of Rice, but that's no need to put it in the East division. Good grief.

Can't happen, because Army wants their offensive and defensive lines to be healthy enough to have a fighting chance in the Army-Navy game. The old CUSA 2.0 that Army joined offered opposing lines that were too big, too many weeks in a row and Army is not going to join a conference that is an upgrade on that one.

So long as the school has to agree to being placed in a conference, you can forget adding Army to the AAC.

We will pursue BYU, Army, AF and Boise.

Others will pursue us.

It will be interesting whether, if we strike out on the four above, whether we’d accept an eastern MWC school like Colo St or New Mexico should they apply.

But we aren’t taking anyone from the MAC, CUSA or Sun Belt. Period.

The AAC won’t need to worry about any MWC schools coming aboard.

Why? The AAC is made-up of one A-10/MAC team and like nine C-USA teams. That’s the proven hunting ground for your conference!

I can't agree.

It would simply be irresponsible for BYU and Boise State to at least not consider it. A 14 school option with Colorado State, BYU, and Boise State would actually be really good.

The West could be:

Boise State
BYU
Colorado State/Utah State
Tulsa
Houston
SMU
Tulane

That really would not be bad at all. You would have three teams that are consistently in the top 25 in the West. And have three teams in the East (Memphis, Cincinnati, and UCF) that are strongly committed to winning.
