I saw Sam at BU's commencement on Saturday (congrats to him) and had forgotten (or didn't know) he had another year.

I would've liked to see him out there on the court a little more and also wish him the best!

Nothing against this kid from Lex Cath, he's probably a good Athlete, but at some point is the Bu roster gonna have 10 or 11 6'5" "Combo guards that look a lot like this young man.

RE: Recruiting class
It feels like that is what the roster currently consists of. The NCAA handcuffs are off next year so there is no longer a "handicap" to recruiting. Our two bigs don't really have anybody to go against in practice except each other so how do they improve especially if one is out hurt?
There has to be more 6'9 240 lb players that can run the Scotty offense and handle BU classes out there somewhere.

Agreed! I made the point on the season thread, where we're discussing Hopf's absence, that the "trot out a bunch of 6'5"-6'7" guys and try to 'gang rebound'" thing didn't always work in D-II, and it's not gonna fly in D-I. We need another Dapo.

Nice. Heaven knows, the size is needed. Looks like he can hit the occasional three too.

One outlet has him as the 3rd-ranked center in Ohio HS, and the 26th-ranked player overall in the state. Recently played in the OH-KY All-Star game.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/16149955/63...09141f3eb6

Quick look around online shows a couple non-D-I offers, a visit to Miami (OH), and interest from Wright State. Hoping Scotty and Company got another steal.

I count ten players on the current roster if they all return so with Doyle and Temming that makes 12 which leaves one scholarsip open which I think is transfer Karasinski unless somebody is not on basketball scholarship.

Shoot. I've not run the numbers, but was hoping for another portal guy with size.

This squad is going to be young (and undersized, but that's kinda become the norm).

BU extends offers to two Class of 2025 guys at "loaded" Jeffersonville (IN) High.

P.J. Douglas, a 6'4" forward:

Michael Cooper, a 6'3" guard (not the guy who played for the Lakers in the '80s and pulled the tube socks to his knees):

RE: Recruiting class
I am a known pessimist, and I guess I have to stay on brand about the upcoming season. Considering the loss of Suder, Bash, and most importantly, Hatton, I don't see how we are better than last season, which was a disaster. (The loss of Wieland is the most inexplicable, why would a guy transfer to Chattanooga for 1 year? At least Suder has two years at a very good school in Miami University. I can see the lure of big time D1 at IU for Hatton.)

Potential spots for improvement: Watkins looks like a real scorer. A guy who can score from all points on the court. JUCO players aren't known for their D , however. Hope he can play enough D to justify a lot of playing time. The other potential spot for improvement is if 1 or 2 of the red shirt freshman are really good, which is possible. I am skeptical because if any of them were that good, it seems like coach would have wanted them to get playing time last year. I have not seen any of them in practice yet, so its hard to say who is the best candidate. H.S. resumes lead me to think it's Whitaker or Lux. Goodin, however, has a legit big time basketball body for a 2 guard, so who knows?

I am guessing that the starting line up is a three (four?) guard lineup: Hopf, Johnson, Watkins, Dez and Smith/Karasinski. This would be a quicker team that what we have been fielding, but as already mentioned, where is the rebounding going to come from?

P.S.: Here is some real pessimism: What if Hopf gets hurt or can't play?

We need our resident Eeyore™.

Still don't understand the Bash transfer, but Hatton's departure is a killer -- he was coming along quite nicely.

BU could really use another Dapo Fagbenle. Karasinski has some good size; hoping he's a leaper and/or a stellar block-out guy who can help with the perennial bounding issue (Moves, we and the others have discussed this bloody issue since the good old days of the D-II board and the sometimes-successful tact of "gang rebounding").

I'm excited about Watkins, who seems like he could be a driver and playmaker that the program has needed since Dylan Penn flew the coop.

Bite your tongue! Saw a recent photo of Hopf (and other teammates) putting on a show for youth campers -- looked to be moving around, but was wearing a robust knee brace.

PF is the important adjective. Right now he is listed at 6'8" and 197 lbs. He just finished his jr. year, so he is probably only 17. Could easily come to BU 20 lbs heavier, and possibly an inch or two taller. (Remember Justin Benedetti was listed as 6'4" coming out of high school and ended up 6'8")

RE: Recruiting class
BU gets a commitment from 6'3" combo guard Tommy Clark, one of the top rising seniors in the Cincy area (Kings HS).

Had offers from at least Toledo, Akron, SEMO, Stetson, and Radford, and interest from at least Miami (OH), Liberty, WKU, Bowling Green, Lipscomb, Evansville, Wright State, and Illinois State.

Looks to have some athleticism, in addition to an ability to hit the three.

More good recruiting news.. a 6'11 big from Cincy. Jacob Wassler. Pretty skilled offensively and can shoot the 3

This local guy (Holy Cross HS) is doing an "unofficial" visit at BU on Saturday:
https://x.com/wade_kramer03

May be a walk-on (preferred?) candidate? Not sure we need yet another 6'4"/6'5" shooter-type without a lot of athleticism.
