Exclamation Football headed to #1 recruiting class in the conference
If you're not keeping up, go check out what's going on with football recruiting! Headed to a #1 recruiting class in conference and perhaps our highest rated class ever. 2 big OL pickups in the last 24 hours.

Go Tigers!

Really good average for player ratings also -- something that's important since just getting a lot of recruits can inflate your team ranking at these recruiting sites.

North Texas is currently the only Group of Five schools ahead of us on 247. That's mostly due to them having 15 commitments to our 10.

How safe are these commits? We started off good last year as well only to have the big boys jump in a steal some.

Nobody at any school is safe until they are signed.

True, the “big boy” local guys in this year’s class appear more positive (as much as one can infer) on social media and in interviews. But, like everything, things can change.

yep. early commits really mean little to nothing. all that matters is who signs.

With there being an early signing period, things are much less fluid than they used to be.

I am still not as worried about the recruits ratings as much as how happy the coach is that he signed them. He definitely has an eye for talent and more importantly, talent that fits his system.

Recruit rankings that solely rely on how many you sign, not the average rating of those recruits don't really mean much this early in the year. Nor does it help that ranking if players aren't ranked, since they count as zero, which bring that average down.

Yeah, but mostly lower tier 3-stars. Average player rating of 82.73 while ours is 85.94. We dropped slightly from 47 to 49 due to one of our recruits being downgraded by one of the recruiting services.

None of them rely solely on how many you sign. It's how many you sign and how highly rated they are. Memphis is currently 43 in the 247 Composite team rankings. That's first among group of 5 schools.

So the schedule isn't affecting recruiting?

I love Norvell's staff's recruiting. Even with the staff turnover, they just keep it rolling.
But it is hard to get excited about football "commits", knowing that we will lose many of these guys before they sign. Dudes just need to wait to commit, until they are ready to commit.
At the same time, much better to get them now than to not get them now.

So funny...I thought you weren't into 'recruiting'

perhaps it varies by sport mate

Well, "commitment" doesn't mean nearly as much as it may have.

Actually, I'm a firm believer that it dramatically affects recruiting as well as many other issues associated with successful programs.
