Just my opinion, but I can see the older basketball fan losing some interest in today’s NBA.
The golden days of Wilt, Kareem, Oscar Robertson, then Dr J, Jordan, Magic and Bird are forever gone.

Is that one of those online polls where you can vote as many times as you want?

RE: Interesting poll
College basketball is a regional sport as far as TV viewership is concerned but upticks a bit if say...Duke is playing in a national game because Duke is considered a national team that people love or hate.. It dramatically increases interest during March Madness because of the office pools and gambling component with the thrill of one-game elimination format and crazy upsets.
NBA is a different animal because while there’s a regional component to it. Fans in general tend to follow players more so than teams. That’s why ratings were down recently because LeBron wasn’t in the playoffs and is in the West Coast

RE: Interesting poll
I don’t understand the continual reduction in shot clock as an attempt to increase points. If you look at our teams in the late 80s and early 90s with 3 point line and 45 second shot clock, we averaged in the 70s—so did most of our rivals, Arkansas, Louisville, 90s Cincinnati, Bimbo Coles led VT, FSU under Pat Kennedy. I doubt Tubby’s 2 teams averaged as much with a 30-second shot clock.

I can believe this poll. I don't think the fact that the college game rules are changing to be more like the pro's has anything to do with it. I think it is the RAH RAH spirit of the college game as opposed to the business like spirit of the pro game. It is work to make their millions for the pro's and it is to win for good ole University for the college game. I think the fact that the pro's are so highly compensated as opposed to the average working person actually turns some people off.

Much prefer college hoops to the NBA, but I'd lean NFL over college football.

Very true statement. And most of the younger generation doesn’t realize that the NBA had 8-10 less teams in the 80s, early 90s (What I consider the heyday of the NBA) and every team was good due to no dilution of talent and the lack of unproven and even bad would be college sophomores and juniors (drafted on potential).
Bird/Magic coming into the the league revitalized a dying NBA. Ratings soared and interest was as high as it had ever been and maybe since. The Laker/Celtics/Bulls teams of that era would have swept any Golden State team of the last 7-8 years. Even then, a team had to have 3 super stars to contend for NBA championship. Magic/Worthy/Jabbar, Bird/McHale/Parrish and MJ/ Pippen/Rodman (among others).
Also, the game was not flop city, superstar call driven as it is now which is one of the things that is so irritating about today’s game.

RE: Interesting poll
The NBA far surpasses college basketball in popularity. The ratings for NBA games are consistently higher than the ratings for college basketball games. And it's not even close.
