BYU, Boise or Air Force for football only. I could maybe see Colorado State.

No sweetheart deals. Maybe a small concession for BYUtv is it.

Also, if we were Uconn fans 99% of us would be pumped about this move.

No chance of that. I'd be furious with the UC athletic department if they effectively signed the death warrant of the football program.

Would you still be saying that if the UC FB program was in the same shape as UCONN's?

Would you sacrifice MBB for abysmal FB?

UCONN is making the right move.

If our fb program was at UCONN's level, yes, I would be clawing to get into the BE.

Appalachian State, Buffalo, Marshall and Ohio would all be disasters.

TV Market Size

UNCC #23 small FB Stadium but pro stadium
UAB #43 building new stadium
ODU #44 small stadium
UB #52 also pro stadium
MARSHALL #70 38K stadium
TOLEDO #71 Glass Bowl

All things considered unless we can get 1 or more of Army BYU BSU or CSU I go with UAB. They are in it to win it with a new $175 million stadium and #43 TV.

No to any of the above. They do nothing to move the needle. We have enough welfare cases in this conference.

this

I still like Marshall, Dayton, and VCU

East: Cincinnati, Temple, Marshall, ECU, USF, UCF
West: Memphis, Navy, Tulsa, Tulane, Houston, SMU

Basketball: Conference tournament is moved to Ohio. Cincinnati and Dayton alternate each year. Cincinnati, Dayton, Marshall, Memphis, VCU, and Wichita State fans combine to help make the conference tournament look like a real important sporting event instead of a summer league open gym. Cincinnati and Dayton would be local, Marshall would be close. Memphis, VCU, and Wichita State would be the next likely to travel. Get the conference tournament out of Florida and Texas as those fan bases do not care about college basketball.

What my plan does is gut the A-10, grabs C-USA's most loyal fan base, and brings the geography together. We actually don't need another high level football team. Cincinnati, UCF, Houston, USF, and Memphis have that covered. The conference does need games in football and basketball where visiting fans can actually travel to. Marshall, VCU, and Dayton solves this problem by bringing the eastern wing closer together.

for an eastern play, basketball centric ploy, its not bad

I would prefer a west move with some combo of BYU and key MWC teams however. Better football that way. We aren't going to replace UCONN hoops with anybody (except maybe Gonzaga...which isn't happening) but they can be replaced and upgraded easily with a combo of BYU/MWC teams.

I am not sure that TV market size should be THE prime factor. 8 or 10 years ago all the conferences were looking to build their own network. And getting your network onto more cable access boxes was what drove your revenue. (Example - B!G adding Rutgers and Maryland for the BTN.) The BTN is an outlier in terms of their financial success. The SEC network does not accomplish nearly as much. Texas almost made their Longhorn Network a success - but they blew up the Big12 doing it.

Cable boxes, and getting fees from everyone in a market whether they view or not, is disappearing. And good riddance.

So is the size of a TV market important? Maybe, but not like we thought a decade ago. Perception of programs, which leads you to tune in one FB or BB game over another, is probably more important. The only candidates with any positive perception are BYU and Boise, but they come with a LOT of baggage - and long plane rides.

History is also a factor in getting viewership. (We tend to watch Alabama/Auburn, Clemson/SC, and Texas/Oklahoma even though we don't care about those teams.) Unfortunately, I don't think anyone in the AAC has enough of a real history with any of the candidates to elevate them.

Some regionalism would also help viewership. Again, I don't see any candidates helping us much here. It would be nice to fill in the hole in our conference's geography, but I don't perceive Georgia State or UAB as being quite ready for prime time yet. (Maybe someday, I wish them good luck, but it ain't today.)

So I am fine with patiently doing nothing short term. A good option may appear if we just wait a little bit.

I'm genuinely confused by that list though...how is Marshall ahead of Toledo? Huntington Metro is 360,000 and Toledo Metro is 608,000.
