Former UAB golfer Zach Sucher has been leading the Travelers Championship PGA event in Connecticut this weekend...until he just had an epic meltdown on the back side of the third round.

He was the leader after the second round, and then shot a 31 on the front side of the third round to go -15 and increase his lead to five strokes. Then, THREE HOLES LATER, he is DOWN two strokes. Yes, you read that correctly. He had a bogey, double bogey, double bogey, and the player behind him, Chez Reavie, went birdie, birdie, birdie, and just like that Zach is in third place.

He was -15 through the first 45 holes of the tournament, and +5 the last three holes. Hopefully, he can get his head back together and turn this thing around. Zach has never won on the PGA tour; he did have one win on the Web.com tour five years ago.

Zucher ended the day still tied for second, but down SIX strokes to leader Chez Reavie.

Reavie played lights out the back nine, carding a 28 (!), and took advantage of Zach's come-apart on holes 10-12 to pick up TWELVE shots on the back nine. He was down six at the turn, and is up six going to Sunday's final round.

Well, I watched that meltdown and it felt like my usual golf game for all 18 holes. Was so excited to see his first few holes as he built that 5 stroke lead early yesterday and then it felt like Paul Dunne deja vu again at the Brit Open a couple years ago. Here's hoping that Zack can finish strong today and get a great paycheck.

Zack had a great back nine today and wound up tying for 2nd place. This accomplishment should keep him on the PGA tour full time next year. Terrific comeback big guy!
