RE: UConn to BE ?
Some people create mentioning BB only schools. The replacement is about FOOTBALL! We need to balance the 6/6 divisions. BB is a non division setup.

Marshall alone might be the answer.

Marshall no way, the state is small and all WVU. the market is really small population and no TV advantage.
No B-ball only schools. The school must help TV ratings in both sports
Select BYU, Colorado St, Boise St or no one.

Hold pat- no need to elevate any program and the remaining schools can pocket a few hundred grand each from UConn’s share of the media deal.

I think its a good move for them. Without a BCS/P5 affiliation, their football is horrifically bad and not going to get better. The Big East is a great place for them for hoops. Not sure they will get back to old Big East form, but its a good fit. They can let football be indy or whatever. Heck, drop it to FCS. Nobody cares.

No..UC needs to go indy in FB and play Boise St., ND, Bama et. al. AAC is a dead-end. Make your own brand and stand by it. Beat teams on a tough schedule and get mentioned in the playoff conversation.

This has a superficial appeal, but I just don't think UC has enough fans for this to work. We don't even dominate our home market, which is split among UC, OSU, ND & UK. The regional reach is weak, and national is non-existent. Even schools that could easily pull it off such as OSU, Texas, Alabama, etc., choose to hedge their bets by remaining in conferences.

Totally agree. Unless we can somehow land a MWC team then we should hold tight. Maybe bounce Tulsa or Tulane while we're cutting weight.

The bottom third of the AAC is so weak that paying somebody to leave would be addition by subtraction.

Several years ago, we pushed to get to 12 members so that we could have a championship game. With the rule change, that is no longer a factor.

With 11, we could play 9 conf games, rotate you "bye". You don't have the same # of conference games every year, but I am not sure that is a really big problem.

It could help us eliminate the FCS game most every year.

if UCONN leaves for the Big East, then put their whole sports program in that league. Guess UCONN will have to drop their football program that really wasn't much anyways.

RE: UConn to BE ?
I'm wondering if UConn football ends up in the MAC. They have a history/partnership with UMass that could work with regional travel, the competition level would be more to their liking, and it would still give them some (albeit small) revenue from their football program...otherwise, I would see no point in them keeping the football program around with how much of a money sink it is.

Losing them is devastating, especially for people only casually paying attention.

I know others will name Houston, Memphis, UCF, etc. as quality basketball schools but they aren’t UCONN. Neither are VCU, Dayton or any of the other potential basketball replacements.

Hey Cincy11 ... Why not go with 'em. 12 team Big East !!! Football independent !!! Let's face it ... We're not UConn ... 07-coffee3

Never Compared them to UC. Just said UConn a big loss, and they are. Don’t understand the desire for people to make comments like this that add nothing.

UConn leaving damages the national perception of the league big time for basketball.

RE: UConn to BE ?
If The AAC let's FB stay it maintains 6/6 but UConn should not be rewarded for leaving.

Would another conference want them?

Perhaps if to backfill from where the AAC poaches a UConn replacement?

I expect any poached conference would prefer to poach another conference.

I expect UConn goes Indy or downgrades to FCS. Going Indy means joining ND BYU Army UMass Liberty and NMS. Indy works OK for the first 3 as they have a national cache. The others have no cache.

I have to feel a little bit sorry for those few UCONN fans who were hoping their football program might revive itself. (Both of them) They have to feel like they were just thrown away.

Slightly separate track. We know that conference changes these days often involve litigation. And ... UCONN presumably would like to see their FB remain in the AAC. So ... I wonder if they file suit to either remain in the ACC for FB, or reduce that 10 million dollar exit fee?

RE: UConn to BE ?
I seriously doubt The MAC will take UConn as UMass was given a choice all in or all out. See the below. I do not see CUSA or The Sunbelt taking them. Choices are Indy (which likely increases money loses), FCS or drop FB. Likely they try Indy first.

After two years as a football-only member of the Mid-American Conference, the University of Massachusetts will leave the league in 2015, MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher told USA TODAY Sports.
In February, MAC league presidents enacted a clause that started a clock on UMass' membership. According to the clause, UMass could either accept full membership in the MAC or serve only two additional years as a football-only member.
Rather than join the league across all NCAA sports – including basketball, the school's premier athletic program – UMass opted for another two years as a football member before leaving the conference altogether.
"I think we had reached the point with our membership that we felt it was time to call the question: go all-in or we'll move on and do different things," Steinbrecher said. "We felt very secure in our membership and confident in the stability of our membership and we're ready to move on.

"This is not the conclusion we anticipated when they joined us three-plus years ago but circumstances have clearly changed and this an end result of those circumstances."
The clause dates back to the school's original move to the MAC in April 2011. At the time, the move gave the MAC two football-only members, Temple and UMass. Once Temple left to join the Big East – now the American Athletic Conference – the MAC then had the option of converting its relationship with UMass into an all-sports agreement or beginning the two-year membership clock.

"We've really enjoyed our association with the University of Massachusetts," Steinbrecher said. "They in so many ways are exactly the type of school we'd like to be affiliated with this conference. So when these two years conclude I'll miss that relationship. On the flip side, while it's not what we hoped or wanted, it was clearly a development that we knew could occur. So we drafted the membership agreement with that in mind."
The majority of the university's athletic programs compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference, minus football, hockey (Hockey East Conference) and lacrosse (Colonial Athletic Association).

aka the inevitable d2 if not getting rid of it all together. Can you imagine what it would be like convincing teams to travel to Uconn for a fball game in Oct. and Nov.? May as well take the money and go to Hawaii. Lol
