RE: UCONN back to the Big East
It’s now or never. Basketball needs this. The rest of the programs need the money.

Big 12 exists until Oklahoma or Texas decide to get with the program and join big 10, sec, or pac 12

Potentially good time in UABsports for consideration. Championship FB team. Championship WBB team. MBB team that could make some noise. New facilities. Great community support. Could be a lot riding on the upcoming seasons...

BTW. STFU on social media about the BOT stopping us or hindering us. I am getting that message from people close to the situation. Be positive.

Stop it. Just stop

PLEASE STFU!!! And stop listing every reason why not. If some of you want better basketball coverage, RPI, and chances to get into march madness then this is the time to help and not hinder it.

Think of it from a recruiting perspective. Teams will be throwing all of their competition's negatives and dirty laundry at the AAC decision-makers....

RE: UCONN back to the Big East
Although a lot of good arguments were made as to the criteria for a replacement, if any, for UConn in the AAC.

IMHO only one entity will make the decision -ESPN and thus related ratings/market will be the most important factor,
Why the new AAC tv contract for the AAC upped from 2 mil till 7 mil a year This contract had no GOR from the schools
which means any school can leave and keep their TV rights - Thus ESPN did not guarantee the amount they would pay.

ESPN approval will be decisive.

CBS is reporting that AAC will likely stay at 11 members for basketball which suggests adding a football only member...that suggests their initial play would be for BYU or Army. IF they both say no, maybe they re-evaluate that stance and look for an all sports member?

I'd say there's a lot riding on the upcoming football and basketball seasons.

RE: UCONN back to the Big East
Timing isn't what we might have wanted, but if there's an opening we have to fight to join. Period.

That said, we're in far better shape to campaign for this move than at any point I can remember. Facilities are much improved across the board. Stadium coming. Bell Gym refurb coming. Football has looked good since Clark. Wins up, attendance up.

We can do this. It's going to be up to the power brokers but there are a lot of reasons to consider UAB.

Does the IMG contract help us or hurt us with ESPN? Is that a conference agreement, or with UAB itself?

Being reported AAC expected to stay at 11 teams for BB which pretty much kills FB expansion.

BYU's schedule would worsen by move to the AAC:

At the end of day, we make them say yes or no. Present our best case. Yielding to negativity and inertia simply isn’t an option

"We" meaning whom?

Usually a school president would be leading the way for such a move. Do we really believe that Ray will make the effort? Or even that our AD will?

This is when we see whether they are really committed to our long-term athletic health and success.

Maybe. Maybe they take a long look at who they might get. It's a chance to try to lure in a home run school if they can. Even if they hold on expansion now, it's still a darn good time for us to be vocal about the advantages of UAB. We've all been beaten down over the years, but this isn't the time to talk about why it can't happen. It's time to sell what *could* happen, to get behind it and push, to be positive.

The big TV contracts will be up for renewal soon, and anything might happen. If Texas or Oklahoma leave the Big 12, that whole thing might fly apart. The other Power Conferences might raid the B12's best bits and go to sixteen teams each. If something like that happens, we might be able to take advantage.

In the meantime, if you're on Twitter and some ECU fan talks trash about UAB to the AAC, nicely explain what he's wrong about. This is not the UAB he remembers. Team's better, attendance better, facilities are better. Pump a little sunshine, it won't kill ya. None of us have any idea who might read what we post, here or on FB or elsewhere.

Amen on all of that. I am trying to look at this thing as unbiased as I can, and I don't think there's anyone who comes close to our credentials for getting in--if they choose to expand. And if they don't, just being in the discussion, and everyone reading our positives over and over, will put us in the discussion for the next realignments (assuming we continue winning on and off the field the next few seasons).

I'm there with you as regards skepticism. Lord knows UAB fans have earned the right to be.

That said, we need to be pounding the drum and supporting the idea. You never know what might happen if we all pull together and fight for what we want to see happen.

Sort of like having a football team.

Ingram has every reason to actively try to make this happen. If UAB moves up, he should get more money. His resume looks better. He can point to all the shiny new facilities that we're playing in that did not exist before he got here. It puts him position to move up to a bigger program come the day, and everyone wants a promotion.

Even Ray Watts would look better if we made the AAC. If he leaves UAB after that happened he could credibly say that he left UAB Athletics far better than he found them. It would even be true.

Talk it up, guys. It's an important time. Might not work now, but we get to practice our act in order to make that bid to move up when the time does come. We don't know, it might have come and we just don't know it.

For Mark it can be career making moment. I have no doubt that he is going to push as hard as he can. For Ray it’s a chance to elevate UAB to associate with institutions that are more in line with UAB in terms of mission and academics. It would be a huge step in rehabbing his image but more importantly if he impedes this process it’ll be found out. He really doesn’t want a repeat of 2014 and he needs HCBC as an ally.

Depends on the year whether ODU or UAB has better basketball. I saw that ODU was having their stadium redone, buy you are getting a new one.

Would think ESPN would like the TV ratings for UAB football more than ODU. Would think that UAB would get a few Friday night ESPN games to take advantage of rabid football viewers in Alabama. ESPN will have a say in this.

ESPN is knot in favor of UAB, and the B-ham market is the number 1 market because of Bama and Auburn. Hence Auburn and UAB Basketball, but Coach Clark is very much liked and respected in Birmingham. I would stay in Cusa as long as they accept us as a Charter member till the new Stadium comes out and see the Draw.

The Blazers will have to bring 50k to be noticed and well that's knot much.

UAB is lucky to have a team! Thanks for Coach Clark. !.

Yes Bama and Auburn help turbocharge interest in college football in the Birmingham market. But Birmingham routinely scores huge college football ratings even for games that don’t involve either school, or even SEC schools at all. Take a random bowl game or national game that doesn’t directly conflict with the Tide or Tigers, and Birmingham will have the highest ratings of any neutral market. That gets noticed nationally. That’s a point in UAB’s favor. Don’t sell it short.
