Yes, Pastner had trouble managing his players and never really earned their respect.

Also a lot of people on this board would have sworn up and down that less talented brother was a better player than Joe Jackson.

How about one of you who is good with pulling old archive threads, go back and bump one of the debates we had about how high Dedric would be drafted?

Not sure what the point is. Being a good college player doesn't always translate into a NBA career. Will Barton was one you missed. He didn't get drafted high but has had a good NBA career. The others had various flaws that kept them out of the NBA.

Barton probably should have been a first rounder and is probably the guy whose career was most clearly hurt by Pastner's failure to capitalize on the talent he was able to attract.

Will’s 3 pt shooting cost him a spot in the first round. Not saying Pastner was much of a Coach but Will had every chance to go first round. He eventually did it and has a nice contract.

Off subject but I didn’t won’t to start a new thread. Giannis won MVP award today becoming the third youngest behind DRose and Lebron. DRose youngest ever to win MVP award.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2704...p-40-years

There was also a Twitter question posed by Brett McMurphey. What player would you have like to have seen not be injured and had a full career? I went with Penny. Bo Jackson was mentioned more than anyone but DRose was a solid second place. Penny who had scattered votes.

And DRose’s 50 point game this year was just named Sportscenter’s Moment of the year.

I think certainly you can make an argument that Antonio was as good or better their freshman year up until the conference tournament in El Paso. That said, I blame most of that on Pastner.

I found Will to be extremely selfish and undisciplined. Pastner allowed him to single-handedly lose the 2012 home game against UTEP. That was the game Tarik had 26 points UTEP couldn’t stop him. But for some reason, we did not get him the ball in the post the last 5-10 minutes. Will seemed to look at the clock and freak out that he didn’t have double digits. He was completely unwilling to sacrifice his points for the sake of the team winning (by continuing to pound the ball into Tarik). Watching the end of that game was one of the most excruciating I’ve experienced since the move to Fedex Forum.

So where does Will the Thrill presently work? Just asking for a friend.

Denver Nuggets, last I heard.

Will Barton

PROJECTED SALARY

Key: Player Option / Team Option / Qualifying Offer / Two-Way Contract
SEASON DENVER NUGGETS
2018/19 $11,830,358
2019/20 $12,776,786
2020/21 $13,723,214
2021/22 $14,669,642

Josh did such a good job with Barton he want from an unheralded high school recruit to a second round pick in the NBA draft

So player development is confined to where a player is drafted? Do you have any actual memories of Barton playing or did you just look up the 2012 NBA draft?

Barton improved from 12.3 to 18 points per game, was skin and bones but still grabbed 8 rebounds per game, up from 4.9, and significantly improved his shooting percentage, 3 point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

He had a really good freshman season and followed it up with a phenomenal sophomore season.

But the wink he gave at the free throw line with seconds left against Gonzaga was pretty cool.

Just comparing those guys to our current #1 class. I've been saying it all along, you just don't know how good they are until they hit the court. It would be really hard for Wiseman not to live up to expectations, but the rest, we'll know in November.

This group looks to have a higher basketball IQ than Pastners’ 2010 class. Neither Will nor Joe had very high basketball IQs as freshmen—both suffered poor high school coaching (and college coaching). Tarik had the highest basketball IQ that year; so much so that GP picked Tarik as preseason CUSA player of the year. I would like to have seen what Joe would’ve been if Coach Tippett had stayed at White Station.

Never was a fan of Tarik Black. Lots of games where a 6'0" 150 lb. Joe Jackson would outrebound 6'9" 265 lb. Black. As big and strong as was Black he could have led the league in rebounding. Maybe Self helped him in that respect. Josh was not a big man coach.

And non stop motor. Always hustled. That’s what got him in NBA. Not sure why our fans want to knock Will and DRose and praise Tarik Black who quit on this team in practice and is a Jayhawk any way you slice it.
