Yeah, it would be nice to have two players go in the first round, but Mick was taking the long term view with both.

Congrats to both players for being drafted high.

Look at the past national champions, look at the teams that have been racking up final four appearances...these teams are full of one and done players. Yeah sure, we'll have a Loyola-Chicago every now and then but, by and large, the teams that win are the teams that have these high talent one and done players on a year in and year out basis.

You can keep your "system" guys. If you want to win at a high level, you have to recruit at a high level. That's why Duke is Duke and we are Cincinnati.

I dunno, man. They both looked pretty sober to me.

Villanova, Virginia, Texas Tech, Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State. Even most of the P5s that have gone deep in recent years develop players over multiple years.

FWIW I'm not arguing we should have recruited Hayes, there was no way to know he was a future one and done, I just dispute that the top schools have one and done players annually.

This reminds me of another coach at UC...

Hayes was a very strange recruitment. When was the last time you saw uk offer a high school bench warmer? He blew up on the aau circuit.

i remember many on here being totally ok with mick not recruiting another "project" and i cant recall anybody here being upset about passing on jaxson.

Mick should have known better and recruited this kid, but lets not act like he was an obvious lottery pick at that time. Hindsight is 20/20.

See this right here is why a LOT of us wanted to move on from Mick. I don't care if we are in the Missouri Valley Conference playing in the Armory Field House. UC should ALWAYS out recruit Texas and at the very least the fanbase, coaches and boosters should have that attitude whether it's true or not.

Yeah, when has Texas ever been a hoops power?

Have you ever seen Texas' athletic facilities?

Ours are nice. Theirs are spectacular.

That's pretty attractive to young kids.

Too much effort for Mick. Lazy ass recruiter while here. He better up his game at UCLA.

I thought it was documented he was a very hard worker??

He may not have been able to land the top end talent, but I don’t ever remember hearing he was lazy.

And once you ask a girl to the prom and she says she’s not interested, do you keep asking her??

Maybe Mick spoke to him and his parents, and was told they were not interested (ultimately Micks fault) or he wanted to go away to college. What’s he to do

Jaxson Hayes said Cincinnati never contacted him. He could have been lying. If it's true, it's hard to claim that you couldn't open recruiting doors at Cincinnati if you never even bothered to knock. I think that's what is chapping everyone's ass right now especially with Mick's underhanded comments about how hard it was to recruit here since his hiring at UCLA. This could be purely anecdotal, but I am seeing a lot more Twitter activity highlighting Cincinnati offers and visits for 4 and 5 star prospects in Brannen's short tenure than what I remember from Cronin's last four or five years. Doesn't mean he's lazy, but it doesn't reflect well on his tenure that Brannen is already getting activity with high caliber recruits.

Chad spoke on this in general. But not specifically that I remember about this kid. Maybe he can chime in.

It’s just funny that everything that happens people focus on a few sentences that some kid said or Mick said.

His results are there (1 S16, plenty Of regular season wins. knocking on the door but did not kick it down.).

When a recruit made it 100% clear they weren’t interested he stopped. In this case, if he never called, maybe he saw something in this kid that made him not want to recruit him. Or maybe it was stubbornness or confidence. The same stubbornness confidence that helped him in a positive way in other situations.

New coaches job will be easier because of him. in the long run maybe he’ll be much better. I sure hope so.

Yea, but Mick looks foolish when he doesn't even bother to check in on the kid when he is starting to blow up and right in his own backyard. By the time he commited he was not a complete unknown, he was getting looks for UK and other big names.

I was still shocked that Texas wanted him because his H.S. Stats were not major college stuff and then the NBA takes him as a lottery pick? just shocking.

Hayes’ sister Jillian just committed to UC WBB. 6’1 SF who averaged 17 points and 8.5 boards as a junior.
