We're having a good bit of recruiting success in the Mobile area. A win should only further separate us, but a loss could hurt future recruiting down there.

What's South outlook for this year? How good are they supposed to be?

They’ll be even with us if not ahead in facilities once their stadium gets built. Can’t beat on-campus facilities, stadiums, etc.

They have been pretty active in recruiting for 2020 with about a dozen commits....

Its a dangerous game. They only won three games last year under the new staff, but they beat La Tech 30-26 and Coastal Carolina 31-28. That second score suggests they are swimming in a similar talent pool as UAB. They will be better in year 2 and highly motivated to end our home win streak and win the gulf war in recruiting. Im very glad this first one is a home game.

South Alabama fan here... I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced. Lots of good memories of rivalry games in old Sun Belt basketball days. I've got family in Bham and family that went to UAB and med school there.

USA has a ton of alumni in Birmingham and nearby so I would expect a pretty good turn out from Jag fans. Hopefully the band and cheerleaders make it up to add to the matchup.

A lot of pre season previews don't expect USA to have much of a team this year and new coaching staff is still rebuilding in second year. I think we'll improve on our 3 win season but not sure how much.

The offensive line should improve with a lot more depth and Coach Campbell is very much involved with the OL development. Running game should improve with a better OL. The biggest question mark is QB. Red shirt sophomore Cephus Johnson looks to be the guy coming out of spring and he has all the tools...size, arm strength, athletic. He struggled with speed of the game last year so hopefully that's improved. We lost several quality receivers but added transfers to fill those spots.

Defense should improve with healthier secondary. DL looks to be our strength. A lot of younger but quality Safeties and CBs need to step up quickly to give us a chance.

I like your QB already, about time someone brought the name Cephus back.

I'm split allegiance here as I went to USA plus helped start their club football team back in the mid 80's. Should have a good crowd as many USA grads in the area & not a far drive from Mobile for students either.

Recruiting in the "LA" (Mobile) area has been good for southern schools and occasionally for schools out west. One of UAB's earliest FB scholarship commitments was from Vigor HS. The public and private HS in that area have turned out some very notable FB players for many college programs.

South fans will travel to Birmingham well for this game. Looking forward to returning to The Magic City and Legion Field. This game should draw a good crowd. Hope so anyway. I certainly respect Coach Bill Clark and his staff and feel you all very fortunate he's your coach.

RE: UAB Football Game 3 Opponent Preview: South Alabama
After the “ we don’t don’t know what we don’t know” shut down of UAB Football, many of our players and I assume recruits headed to Mobile and South Alabama, as well as our current OC.
Are any players from UAB or former recruits or coaches of UAB still on the South Alabama team/staff?
Just wondering. This may be a good rivalry to start playing annually.
