New Div I Programs & Scheduling
Got to give the Cal Baptist Lancers some major props...

In their second season of Division I play, they have 20 home games. Per the release, "The Lancers boast a packed home slate with 20 of their 31 regular-season games being played in the state-of-the-art Events Center. Last season, only eight other Division I programs had 20 or more homes games on their slate, with the likes of Houston, South Florida, North Carolina State, and Indiana to name a few."

Sure, they have the maximum allowed four non-DI games at home, but they also have 8 Div I home games. Even if half of those are against the SWAC, got to give CBU major props for being able to do that kind of magic in year #2. That's something that many low to mid-majors only dream of.

CBU Schedule

Any word on Merrimack or North Alabama MBB schedules?

On a related note, super impressed with Dixie State's football work which can be found on FBSchedules

RE: New Div I Programs & Scheduling
Cal Baptist soldout their D1 opener and picked up their first D1 win on a halfcourt shot.

STH-wise, I would rather see the best 6 FB & 15 BB games a school can come up with. Those 7th-8th and 16th-20th games against lower division teams are a waste of everyone’s time, IMO.

I don't think that many low-major (and certainly no mid-major) programs are dreaming about that schedule. 20 games but as you point out, the OOC is mostly non-D1s and schools willing to travel anywhere for some money. Their big OOC home game appears to be UC Riverside.

For a school that's in its second transition season in D1, it's certainly not a bad schedule, and it's far better than playing 20 road games, but that's not magic, that's willingness to pay for games and finding takers.

That's a lot of money games, especially with a D-1 newbie buying the games. What they lack in quality, they make up for in quantity.

Maybe it's just me but in the Southland, we are lucky to get 1 or 2 Div I games. Some of the league schools get 0 due to inability to buy a home game against a SWAC school or the need to raise $400k in guarantee games (5 games at 80k+ a pop) annually. To have 13 non-conference games of which nine are Div I games of some or another is a feather in their cap, regardless if they paid for them or not.

The game against Southern is part of a home-and-home series with Southern. The played at Southern last season. CBU played at UCR last season and this is supposed to be an annual matchup. The schools are eight miles apart in the same city. The game at home against South Dakota is part of the Summit/WAC matchup, which they played at Oral Roberts last season. They played eight non-conference road games last season. The three road games at Texas, UCI and Cal will be challenging.

As a CBU season ticket holder, I like this schedule at this point in time. They have a good shot at winning twenty games and contending for the WAC regular season title. They were the only team in the WAC to beat NMSU last season. They return the leading scorer in the WAC (Milan Acquaah), the leading rebounder in the WAC (De'jon Davis), the 2nd best shot blocker in the WAC (Zach Pirog). CBU returns 3 of their top 4 scorers. They added some key D1 transfers. This should be an interesting season if they can stay healthy.

4 DII schools and some SWAC schools isn't terribly exciting.
