local bar room bands
The Convo thread and former musical acts got me reminiscing about local bands that played in the DeKalb/Sycamore bar scene over the years.
My favorite was the Real Rick McDowell band that played in the Jungle in the late 70s. Down home country rock, which was damn popular at the time.
Or, maybe it was the excessive amount of cheap pitcher beer in me that made them sound so good.

Lucky Boys Confusion, Trippin Billies, Kashmir, Hi Infidelity, Sixteen Candles, Mike and Joe, and Wedding Banned are all the ones I could remember

My favorite is Lucky Boys Confusion. They were somewhat big on the early 00s, then nature ran it's course

I first saw Mike & Joe in like ‘93. Those dudes are still playing like their Menudo or something.

Mr. Meyers was big in my days at NIU in the 80's. Steel drums with a reggae vibe.

The owner/founder of Lagunitas, Tony McGhee, played with Mr.Meyers for a bit.

The Crykle was an awesome British Invasion tribute band of the mid-80s. Riders on the Storm kicked butt as a Doors tribute band. The lead singer was amazing.

I really hate to say this, as it shows how frikin' old I am, but I remember Cheap Trick playing at the Red Lion.
And yes, there was electricity at that time.

Andys was a good bar to just drink at. I was bouncer at Wild Bill's until it closed.

I remember seeing Blues Traveler at the Fieldhouse around 96. The Lemonheads at the ballroom in the student center in 93. Mike and Joe played several times at Otto's and was always fun. Otto's always had live music on the weekend back in the mid 90's.

The Grateful Dead played at the Fieldhouse in 1977. Anyone see that?

Was at the landmark Ramones concert, spring 1980 in Sandburg Auditorium. Unforgettable.

Those are some massive names for the Duke Ellington Ballroom. NIU needs to step it up for the convo.
