Looks like Michigan is this year’s surprise team, a team that was worried they wouldn’t make the NCAA tournament before the Big 10 tournament and beginning the 8 team CWS as 50-1 underdogs to win the title.
Tech had a great season with a well balanced team, but a particularly strong offense. They got into a deep hole by losing their initial CWS game to Michigan. As we all know, it’s really tough to win a double elimination tournament from the losers’ side of the bracket in the CWS..unless you’ve got unlimited and stellar pitching. That and they ran into this year’s “hot” team in Michigan. Still, they should be proud. Arguably, the best College baseball program in Texas at the moment. And men’s basketball. Oh, and did I mention men’s track?

Or you get pitches in the opposite batter’s box called for strikes. See Almadenmike’s post above.

Game 1 of the championship series and Michigan is up 4-2 in the T4 with 2 on and no outs.
Serves Vandy right for wearing this awful fatigue green unis again. Once was more than enough.

Jimmy Kerr -- the third generation of Kerrs to play for Michigan in the CWS -- hit a 2-run homer in T7 to extend Blue's lead to 6-3.
Vandy may want to sponsor family member John Kerr III's trip to TD Ameritrade Park. ( https://www.detroitnews.com/amp/1546398001)

Astros’ third round pick, Michigan RF Jordan Brewer, easily guns out a runner trying to go from first to third. A chance that Vanderbilt had to take, but one that was gonna be tough to make regardless of who was in RF.

??? Why did Vandy have to take that chance; they were down by 4 runs with only 5 outs remaining. Stupid baserunning, and I'm pretty sure the runner ran through the stop sign as he never looked up as he approached 2B. A cardinal rule of baseball is to NEVER get thrown out at 3B with less than two outs.

I heard that story. Very impressive!
Even more impressive is his grandfather threw 2 complete games in the CWS, on the same day, throwing over 300 pitches, and got the game winning hit in one of the games. Top that grandson!
If I heard the story correctly during thr broadcast.

A question about the ESPN coverage: I can tell that Michigan is competing for a championship, but is there another team playing? It seems the only team I hear mentioned on the broadcast is Michigan.

Rocker delivering for Vandy allowing no runs on only 2 hits with 10 Ks thru 6 innings. Vandy up 4-0 in the 7th.

Grandson so eager to "top that" that he swings at balls out of the strike zone in every at bat.

He had a pretty tough day yesterday, as did Michigan's catcher.

Rocker was doing that to a lot of Michigan hitters last night. Good news for Michigan is Rocker won't be on the mound today for Vandy...or will he...in the mold of Kerr's grandfather?

Amazing just how Vanderbilt gets all of that talent, with only 11.7 scholarships. There must be plenty of rich people whose sons just happen to be excellent baseball players.
If they're using some kind of loophole, the NCAA needs to close it, or else let EVERY private school do the same.

They do the academic scholarship thing, like LSU and Baylor and TCU. Like Rice should be able to do going forward thanks to the Rice Investment.

This has been covered at length on here and by the national pundits. Vandy gives out non-athletic scholarships to players, something Rice should be able to match going forward.
I’ve always wondered since so many athletes major in sports management could a wealthy alum give full rides or partial scholarships to incoming students “exhibiting exceptional qualities and intending to pursue a sports management degree”. It wouldn’t always go to an athlete but I bet a lot of the time it would and it’s vague on criteria.
I know one college at least gives a scholarship out to someone after their freshman year and I think it’s at random? Could that go to an athlete or no?
