Republicans and Democrats are nothing more than the right and left wings of the Government Party.. That leaves me as a small "l" libertarian.

RE: Polling the group
None of the above. The two party system will be the death of this country. The Dems and the Pubs are the same party with different platforms to attract various voting segments. Both spend money like drunken sailors. The only good things lately are the tax cuts and deregulation to spur the economy to new heights, while the rest of the world has a ho hum economy. And the Pubs couldn't do that until Trump came along, and I don't like him either, b/c his personality sucks, and he keeps killing his own message with stupid attacks on everybody who doesn't love him.

The Libertarian party is a joke, not viable. Neither Johnson nor Weld was an actual Libertarian in the last election.

So I belong to the TripleA one man party of less taxes, more deregulation, clean air and water but not BS like the Green New Deal, sensible immigration laws, support of the Second Amendment, the wall where it makes sense to help control the border, no foreign aid to countries who piss it away, no involvement in foreign wars where we weren't initially attacked, 6 week presidential election campaigns, term limits on all, a total cleanup of government spending (waste fraud and abuse), including the military, drastic shrinking of the fed gov, sensible phasing out of the deficit, balanced budget, fix for entitlement programs so they don't go bust (although some should die altogether), and about 50 other things that are too much to type, and don't fit neatly into one label.

So would I. Libertarians do themselves no favors by acting as if they are the only people on the planet who know things.

RE: Polling the group
Why no I for independent? Which is what I would be if an independent were viable. Since there are none of those apparently, and the libertarian party can't even agree among themselves about a message, I'm stuck with voting GOP.

Show me a blue dog worth anything, fiscal responsibility along with a strong national defense - including border control, and who is a staunch 2A supporter and I could get behind someone like that.

The OP was correct to omit an "independent" polling option. It would overwhelm every other selection.

It's the rest of you knuckleheads who are all susceptible to groupthink. But not me, freethinking independent that I am.

Same here. I have no political party affliation and my beliefs are probably closest to a blue dog democrat from the 90s. They dont exist anymore. I sometimes lean libertarian, but as I age I view libertarianism as chasing a utopia and unworkable in reality.

RE: Polling the group
I think of myself as Conservative, not Republican. Conservative in the “Burkean” sense of desiring as much local control as possible, and minimizing federal influence. Recognizing the pluralist nature of the American people.

I have cast a ballot in 8 presidential elections. Two of those ballots (1988 and 2004) were for the GOP nominee. The other 6 were for third-party candidates.

I am still not reconciled to Trump. I suppose I never will be. The elections of 2016/2018 have forced me to place Georgia in the toss-up column for future campaigns. So I might vote for Trump next year. Don’t want to, but I’ll have to wait and see how things stand, 16 months from now. Keeping the Democrat nominee out of the White House is a high priority.

We need at least 3 more options for the left:

1. Party of the Echo-Chamber Regurgitators
2. Member of the church of the hive-mind
3. Peach Mint Party

RE: Polling the group
I'm fiscally conservative...spend what the government takes in (if we can't pay for it cut it) and provide the services that the Constitution says the government should provide.

I'm socially libertarian...I don't care what you do in the privacy of your own home as long as you aren't hurting anyone...but I don't want to pay for it and I don't want to hear about it.

I'll pay the taxes I owe and otherwise I want the government out of my life.

They're all around but now they're called Republicans. LOL, you just described a republican and don't realize it.
