I think Mick is a fool for saying half of that stuff. But What I said was recruiting to UCLA Will be easier than recruiting to the Bearcats. Regardless of Mark Few or Memphis or anything else. That’s a different Argument and I hope Coach Brannon can recruit at least as well as them.

That is beyond dispute. What I dispute is Mick's implication that UC can't hope to compete with non-elite P5s.

Beyond dispute, but that is was what Mick said. He was not throwing UC under the bus. If he blends his strong D, with naturally talented scorers, he could definitely get to a FF. Big Q is, will he switch to straight man if needed, or feel the need to stay in a match up zone. A person doesn’t need to show that they are genius defensive coach. The goal is to win the game. If your players are more talented let them play to their strength.
UC is top 25, period. Even in the AAC. He rebuilt the program post Huggins, no doubt. But he also hit a wall, even in the Big East, that he could not get past.

Probably stay in zone. His refusal to go to man defense was always a mystery. If the other team is busting your zone, and you have a squad filled with players who have been specifically recruited for defense, why would you not play man when zone isn't working? Stupid, or at least stubborn.

Mick's biggest flaw and not likely to change. Three and done at Westwood.

Mick can get away with his bad attitude for so long as he wins (to UCLA's expectations). It won't take him long to get into to his grumpy leprechaun schtick after UCLA misses out on going to the F4 a few times

Another new article, this one from Forbes...

UCLA's Mick Cronin Says Schools Negative Recruit Against His Style, Wants To Lead Nation in Offense

New UCLA men's basketball coach Mick Cronin says he knows other schools are out there negatively recruiting against his coaching style and he's vowed to do something about.

Cronin says other schools tell recruits that Cronin is a defensive-oriented coach who won't let them shine offensively.

"I get [ticked] off when I read about all we do is play defense and nobody tends to look at the fact that we're 1-2 in scoring in the American [Athletic Conference] every year," Cronin said Wednesday by phone in an exclusive interview. "Two years ago we led the nation in margin of victory.

Methinks he's in over his head. And his replacement doesn't seem to be having much issue.

Annnnd the list of reasons used he can't recruit top guys keeps growing...

Don't have a modern arena and facilities
AAC
Why spend the time and resources when they won't come anyway
Cincinnati not a blue blood
I don't have access to a private plane
Other programs tell lies that I'm only about defense

Ridiculous!

I believe a major problem for Coach Cronin was he didn't seem to want much help from anyone. He sort of seemed to be the only one involved which probably happens because of the Small man syndrome. HE was rather apprehensive of that. He'll have to change at UCLA or they'll dump him like a jilted GF.

It's not going to work. It was never going to work. I'm surprised they wanted Mick. I was surprised Mick wanted them. It's all been said before. Let's just enjoy the car wreck.

RE: Cronin article in USA Today
I won't suggest this is all on Mick, but a former player has told me that UC has not done a good job of cultivating and maintaining relationships, broadly speaking, with many former Bearcats.

That requires a substantial investment of time and resources but it should be a priority to maintain those connections. Many of those guys have done well financially and could be willing to give back; others had kids or grandkids who are future D1 players and should have the red and black as their first preference when recruited.
