Protective Stadium (Birmingham) - Final design renderings
The design of Protective Stadium was approved yesterday by the Birmingham Design Review Board. The finalized size of the Stadium is 45,500 permanent seats, expandable to 75,500.

She must not have seen UNCC’s extra-small stadium with its limp, lifeless crowds during a 49ers home football game.

Looks nice. Just wondering if it will be too big. We need another home and home once UAB gets their new home. Wish we were going to UAB in 2021 instead of this year. UAB comes to us in 2020 for our first season of having an campus stadium.

Very nice, but I would say 35K seats would be sufficient. Will be a nice addition to B’ham and UAB.

Awesome renderings. Populous is the same company who did the renderings for our new stadium as well during the planning stage.

I really like the way the suites are below the press box and the gigantic scoreboard

Well we have had two crowds in our short history that would have filled it and anticipate a sellout for the opener. In addition we need the 45K for the bowl game. AB will buy clt a beer in the new stadium while we throttle his team.

I don't get it. What's the plan to fill this thing? You can't schedule USM every game to help you fill it and no other team in this conference can help you fill it. Kids get in free day will turn in to kids always free, which will turn it to $5 tickets..just come...please.

Weird. ODU shows design plans for 22k seat stadium, we get insulted for capacity.

UAB shows design plans for 45k seat stadium, gets insulted for not being able to sell out games.

It's as if the opposing fanbases will always have something negative to say when they aren't the ones receiving new things. Who would've thought.

Oh no don't get me wrong a 22K seat stadium is FCS level awesome. I'd much rather have a big stadium and sell $5 tickets...just wondering why UAB went THAT big.

Because of HDTV, quality of fan experience at a stadium is much more important than quantity of fans it can hold (or at least outside of the "football factory" programs like Bama, OSU or Mich).

Probably because the don't own it, its not on campus. They won't be the primary tenant (7 home games minus 365...) and they want to host a bowl game.

Why would you want to deflate the value of your tickets purely because of some arbitrary capacity number? We need to generate more revenue at this level. Excess capacity hurts that goal.
