I have never been to any of the MAC stadiums, but from the pictures on Wikipedia, the SBC stadiums completely blow then away. With the possible exception of maybe one.

I agree JoeJag. Toledo's stadium doesn't look bad but there are some real dogs in the rest of the MAC.

I think the top tier in the Belt is now TXST, USA, App St, Troy, and GSU.
GS, UL, and AState aren't far behind. I wish UL would finish with all their expansions.
CCU will get there as they expand.
ULM has work to do.
The negative to TXST is the stand don't go all the way to the end zone on the building end. App St doesn't have a true horse shoe but the hill being moved looks nice. USAs is nice because it is all new and not piece milled. Troy is resting heavy on the new end zone complex, which may be the best in the Belt.

GA St. still has a lot of work to do to upgrade various areas of that stadium to be considered first tier.

Modern, updated, flashy: TXST, USA
Modern with some dated features: Troy, Arkansas St, App State, CCU
Dated with some modern features: GS, GAST, UL, ULM

According to Ben Moore, I believe Georgia State is self financing all new facilities and upgrades with absolutely zero debt/loan, unlike many other G5s out there. This explains our incremental "phases" in upgrades. I'm ok with this so we dont end up like UCONN.

I don't think none of us want to wind up like UCONN. That's great that Ga State can upgrade/improve without having to borrow money, I wouldn't think most Power 5 schools can pull that off.

It's not that P5 schools can't pull it off, it's that borrowing money when it's cheap makes sense if you invest cash that has a higher rate of return in other areas.
Not sure how colleges work but I'd imagine many have funds that they place money in to. Surprised Georgia State is using cash to finance this rather than investing money in short term markets with higher average rate of return than the cash that they borrow.

I like this assessment. I'd like to just add some notes.
- Troy should be right on the edge of the top category.
- App State's most standout dates feature, oddly enough, is the erector set upper bleachers on the east side, which were dated about as soon as they went up in the late 2000's. I think the whole west side is fine, needing no upgrades. The south end zone might get bowled in someday.
- CCU's dated feature I'm guessing us the press box. Is there a need for a scoreboard? The expansion I would think makes the stadium all around pretty modern.
- Ga. State is in a category unto itself. It's a former relatively modern and flashy stadium. But oh yeah, former BASEBALL stadium.

Just curious... what do you see about Troy's stadium that is dated? It's still only a 17-year old stadium that's consistently received upgrades.

Super small, nitpicky details. I agree with Michael in Raleigh that Troy's stadium is right on the line, but there are a few things that separate it from the "modern, updated, flashy" category. I give TXST and USA major props for their exteriors which wrap and hide the supports of the seating whereas Veteran's Memorial has the exposed metal beams which doesn't look as good in my opinion. You might notice all the stadiums in the second category have bleachers with exposed metal beams. The other thing is the pressbox which is the oldest of the press boxes in the first two categories.

So we dont end up like the majority of the G5

We have. I think Georgia Southern fans shared enough pictures of seats covered in bird poop and rusted over Braves signage on twitter in 2018 to show there's still some work that needs to be done behind the scenes.

BUT... it is the largest press box...

I was amazed at how run down many parts of that stadium appeared in 2017 when we first visited. I wasn't able to go last year to see what changed have been made, but at the time it was clear the Braves stopped maintaining it the day their new stadium was announced.

RE: Offseason Discussions: SBC Facility Projects
Press facilities at Georgia State Stadium are truly pitiful. Working press enters through the back entrance on Bill Lucas Dr and sits in the corner of the end zone (still the old press room that was above home plate) putting you sometimes 100 yds away from the action. Idiotic.

I have been amazed at how they have quietly made improvements every offseason without any announcement. Was never an ADCC fan but he is looking like a prophet genius in view of COVID and his being able to say , "we have $0 debt" .
