Here is the OU statement:

My concern is that AState Chancellor Kelley Damphousse will be a top contender.

OU is one of those unique birds where the tie between the school and the state house is to a point where they seem mere extensions of the other. You’d think for a R1, they’d tap the provost from an aspirant or grab a former OU person high up at another comparable school.

My concern is Damphousse was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (largest of the colleges) at OU when he became chancellor at AState.

Super popular, plus he was faculty athletic rep and played big role in getting Mayfield another year.

After this mess if there were ever a time to break it up and do it differently, this is the one and you've got a highly regarded former staffer sitting nearby running a university.

And I don't mean to slight Damphousse or A-State, I think OU would make that hire. It makes some sense for OU. It's just that OU doesn't do things like others would.

There wasn't a unanimous uproar when Barron returned to Penn State as its president, despite his previous work at the university and his tenure at FSU. Because it was FSU. Here's a Penn State guy coming back to run Penn State...people were like "we could have done better." He wasn't their first choice. That point hasn't disappeared.

I agree. If it weren't for the messiness at OU right now, based on past history I wouldn't give it a thought.

I agree. If it weren't for the messiness at OU right now, based on past history I wouldn't give it a thought.

Joe Harroz is the interim president of OU. He is the dean of the school of law, and is on a 15 month contract as interim president. He is an OU grad, native of OKC, and was an aide for Boren in the US Senate before returning to Oklahoma and pursuing a law career. He was rumored to be in the mix for the president's position when Gallogly was selected. If there is no chaos in the next year, there is a good chance he will get the permanent gig.

If it were me, I'd move as far away from the Boren presidency as possible. That was the thinking behind the hiring of Gallogly. He was a corporate CEO and major donor to the school of engineering (which is named for him). He made a lot of cuts during his year in the presidency, and made some enemies. It was his job to clean house, and he did a lot of it in a short period of time.
