Berkman in booth for Astros games
He was terrific as a commentator last night - funny stories, lots of insights on all aspects of baseball. Mentioned his time at Rice a few times.
He will be on again tonight.

Lance is a joy to listen to. He is substantive, interesting, lucid, funny, and erudite.
A couple of innings ago he used the word "historicity". The cool thing is no the fact that he used, but how: he didn't seem to be showing off, but rather to be searching for just the right word -- which it was. I love it!

Berkman in the top of the 12th, telling a story about the thick infield grass at Wrigley Field in 2003 or so: "It was like they were trying to grow lettuce in the infield." What a vivid image!

He should have suited up and hit for the Stros last night. 5 hits in 14 innings? That’s not winning many games. Cudos to the pitching staff for making it last as long as it did.

Berkman was excellent in the booth. I wish he would replace one of the Astros bland announcers.

Late last night, I sent Lance and his wife a message saying how much my wife and enjoyed his commentary -- and specifically citing the "growing in lettuce in the infield" description. Today we got a very charming reply from Mrs Berkman, and then one from Lance too!

I know of at least one other former MLB player, this one a pitcher, who had a similar opinion.
