Penny in Hong Kong
Was watching “Vice Tonight” on HBO. They were showing some political demonstrations going on in Hong Kong with nearly 1 million protesters. Low and behold, but there was a dude in the middle of this mass of humanity with a Penny Orlando Magic Jersey. Just popped right out at me. Wish I had thought to get a screen shot. Think about that - a random person is in Hong Kong right now walking around in a Penny jersey. Wild man.

Imagine if he could have arranged an exhibition over there this off-season. With a Mandarin-speaking James Wiseman (I get that he might not be fluent, but imagine what that would do for Wiseman on his way to the NBA, Penny, and the U of M's rep in the largest basketball market).

I think they speak Cantonese in Hong Kong. But yeah, the mainland speaks Mandarin and that would go over well.

Penny's popularity in Japan is well documented. Farrekhan Hall plays in Japan and was talking about this on the radio. Drew Hill wrote an article on it.

Correct. I think Mandarin is taught in school, so most know both.

According to FH, Penny has just as big of a following as a coach as he did player. People wake up at 8 am to watch our 7pm games.

Looks like those protesters had the barricades set up near the pedestrian bridge between the Central and Hong Kong stations. About 2 months ago I was standing right there and walked over that bridge. And I'm pretty sure I was wearing Tiger blue if that counts for anything. 02-13-banana

Pretty sure it's too late. Maybe Penny can launch his Nike Penny brand, sign Ja, Fred Van Fleet, Wiseman, Boogie, Precious. If he wants to kill the Asian market, throw in Lin, Yuta, and Hachimura. Bonus points for being able to do so while officially "divested" from the brand.

Was it the old dark, pinstripe jersey, or the white? Don't leave us hanging.
