You could bet on this, but had to play the US - 5 goals.

Love that the Women's Team got off to a good start.
That said...I think running the score up on Thailand was uncalled for and bad sportsmanship. Celebrating goals 7-13 like they did looks like rubbing it in. There's no reason to flat out embarrass an obviously overmatched opponent.
Poor form by the Women's Team.

Dang, I think I love Alex Morgan.

Anyway, 13-0 was an butt whipping; however, I have no issue with running up the score in the professional ranks. IMO, it would have been more humiliating to Thailand if the US just kept kicking the ball around at midfield the entire second half.

Counterpoint: Goal differential is a tie breaker in the group stage and the team was doing everything it could to assure that it’ll advance as the higher seed.

RE: 13-0
It wasn't the scoring that bothers me.

The over the top celebrating late in the 2nd half is a bad look. I know it's the world cup, but tone it down a bit until the later rounds.

I don't mind it if it was someone's first WC goal, but I can see what you are saying...

The US starting goalie did a media interview where she just absolutely shredded the US Head Coach. Don’t know all the history there but it must be pretty bad.

Absolutely not. These women get to compete in 2-3 WC's if they are lucky, perhaps 4-5 in the most rare cases. I do feel bad for Thailand, but they are there to compete like any other team. The US sitting back on a 3-0 lead would have been extremely disrespectful to Thailand, not to mention unfair to the US team in robbing them of preparation.

The only celebration that was over the top IMO was Rapinoe's. She doesn't score much, but still should have known better.

Agree with that - it is the goal celebrating that was over the top

RE: 13-0
As mentioned, goal differential is a tiebreaker in the group stage, and that tiebreaker will be used to determine 1st and 2nd places in this group if the USWNT beats Chile, Sweden beats Thailand, and USWNT draws with Sweden. Seems likely that Sweden would also run up the score on Thailand if they care about finishing first.

Oddly enough, based on the expected bracket for the round of 16, it's not going to matter much whether the USWNT finishes 1st or 2nd in this group. Either way, they would face the 2nd place team from another group in the round of 16 and probably face either France or Germany in the quarterfinals. Germany has a better team on paper; France is almost as good and is playing at home.

One of my daughters played in a junior tournament a few years ago that had a five-goal limit on the goal differential that would count in the group standings, i.e., whether you won a game 5-0 or 13-0, you would only get at most a +5 in the goal differential tiebreaker. But FIFA doesn't impose any such limit in the World Cups.
