I actually laughed a little at the post because I have a feeling I know the reason behind it; and it was odd that a person who supports big D1 SMU would say little D2 Arkansas Tech is their most hated team. Yeah, I am an old ATU football letterman.

I brought up Barry Switzer. He tended to be in the grey-area and his players sometimes followed suit. But here is a few sentences of his bio:

Barry and his brother were at home in rural Arkansas when it was raided by the Arkansas State Police. They found untaxed contraband liquor in the home. His father was tried and convicted of illegal trafficking in alcohol for purposes of re-sale ("bootlegging"). He was sentenced to a term of five years in prison, but that conviction was reversed upon appeal. His father did serve five months and as a result missed seeing Barry play his senior season of high school football. Barry and his brother were at home with their mother when in 1959 she took her life by her own hand with a .38 caliber pistol on the back porch. In 1972 Barry's father was murdered by a jealous lover

That he could overcome that and achieve the success he did (3 NCAA championships, 1 Super Bowl championship, College Hall of Fame) deserves some respect even as he deserves fair criticism for at times losing control of his players.

Mutual respect. OU and Nebraska never hated each other. We played a decades-long series of games at the end of the season with conference and national championship implications. We lost that when we moved to the Big 12. We'll never get that back.

In 1980, the winner of the OU-Nebraska game went to the Orange Bowl, while the loser went to the Sun Bowl. On the Friday night before the game, retired coach Bob Devaney had a pineapple on his TV show, which he intended to give to Barry Switzer to eat while the Huskers were in Miami. Switzer walks on stage with a bag of tacos and gives them to Devaney, telling him that they'll enjoy El Paso. OU won the game and went to the Orange Bowl.

Speaking of Nebraska, it's interesting that though it's been 18 years since they played for a NC, they still show up in a list of top 10 most hated teams. On the other hand, Clemson, with all their recent success, does not show up on this list.

Here is a map of them, actually I don’t see why Montana hates UW, and if BYU was in the MW they would be in Wyoming also. Out west people cannot stand their arrogance, drama and dirty play.

I'm actually shocked that Ohio State wasn't the most hated team in South Carolina. Despite having never beaten either in state team the Suckeye fans who have left Ohio to move to South Carolina and those who only vacation here have made such an imprint that it spawned stuff like this:






But I understand why South Carolina is up there. They've done more to marginalize every state supported institution that wasn't under the UofSC label and just about as much to marginalize every UofSC institution that wasn't UofSC-Columbia that it's understandable why they are the most hated.

I can't stand USC, Texas, or Notre Dame. All 3 are overrated.

I wish the state of Utah focused on P12 schools to hate (USC, Washington, Oregon seem look good choices), same with Colorado. Also kinda funny the state of New Mexico hates Baylor.
