Oats (new UAT coach) willing to play instate schools around the state
Good news -the new UAT head basketball coach is willing to instate schools in Mobile Huntsville and Birmingham may help that he came from a mid-major.

bad news is mentioned UAT must be in control of arena my guess means ticket distribution etc.and Mentioned by name only Samford and USA.

The ugly not mentioned in article the sainted one might still want to honor two dead men's fued

Good news for who? Those are terms UAB won't accept and there really isn't any desire on the southside to play them any way.

We got screwed over (and yes our AD was complicit in the screwing) in last year's matchup with Auburn. That is one reason there is almost no chance of that series being renewed. Without a significant financial windfall, there is absolutely no benefit for UAB to play UAT...not as long as we own the series record.

Our best bet is to take care of our own house and let the SEC schools in state take care of theirs. If they want to play, great call and we can negotiate. If not, there are 300+ schools in the rest of the country. Continually trying to use UA and AU as the measuring stick for success is just beating our heads against the wall

There are an endless number of schools we can play! Look at all the schools we've played that we didn't know existed over the past few years.

Alabama isn't going to play us, even if we agree to their terms, so it really doesn't matter what their coach says. I still would like to see the Auburn series renewed.

The Bama vs UAB feud in FB & BB arose from the administration level (AD - particularly Mal Moore - to BOT) at Bama. Those team's coaches have not been the key participants in either sport. As names change over time, perhaps attitudes will also. As I have observed before, Bama's administration with its fiefdom mentality, is not in step with even other SEC teams, much less other conferences with regard to occasionally playing instate G5 teams. Oats may have just been talking from his prior experience. We shall see if change at Bama is in the wind.

Not gonna happen (unless we bend over)...

For the record, I have no desire to play UA (not really that interested in Auburn, either) in FB or BB. I'd be much more interested in playing P5 schools from the surrounding states...

A real basketball person that wanted to promote college basketball in Alabama or promote their program would want that game. Wimp was a wimp and thought more about himself than his program or college basketball in Alabama.
That game did not happen because Wimp was a jerk and was worried about his job.
I’ll take 1-0 vs Tuscaloosa and 1-0 vs their special coach in football.
If they say bad stuff about us, it only makes them look bad.
Right now we own them!

Even tho we can’t beat them, playing Auburn is good especially at Bartow.

Why is this good news? When I attend UAB games it's because I'm supporting my school not because of who the opponent is that day.

You’ve see their last trip to Bartow with Pearl as coach I’m afraid. Even the game at the Civic Center our AD screwed us.

One might note that they ask the playing question every time to their new coach but never ask it to our new coach.

This means that they must believe the ball isn't in our court.

If the ball isn't in our court then we shouldn't really concern ourselves with it.

I don't care if we never play them. We own the head to head and we shouldn't bend over just to have a "chance" to play them. I'm with others on this thread. there are 300+ other teams to play against. So take their demands ad kick rocks.[/align]

He will always kowtow to the $EC. It's in his blood.
